Put together a .260 with some campfire parts... and it shoots the 123 Amax pretty well. Purely for the sake of science, I thought I'd post these pics.... and let the Einstein in each of us draw our own conclusions.

Muzzle Velocity is right at 3k.... all between 150 and a little over 400yds. I have still yet to miss a prairie dog with this gun....

The stick.... poised and ready... Bog-Pod up front, Eberlestock as a rear rest.... pure poison.

" use enough dynamite there Butch?"

Although it doesn't blow them up any more than a 22 caliber does, it certainly has to give a lot of satisfaction to know that you have a big game hunting rifle capable of giving you that kind of accuracy right out to 400 yds...

certainly keeps enough ft lbs to wreak havoc at those further distances, considering the 123 A Max is considered a target bullet not a varmint bullet...

have you tried the 100 grain and under varmint bullets in your 260? that would give even better explosion...

but definitely a fine rifle, a fine set up and good shooting put it all together for a very fulfilling after noon....

thanks for sharing..

My favorite, by the way.... the lobotomy pic...
plowed a furrow right down the middle and look at the split skull.... that must be what they mean when they say "I have a splitting head ache.." whistle

Sea...

While they don't disassemble them any better than a hot .22.... most of the victims landed 10-20 feet from where they were shot... I love the whole dog helicopter. The 123 is definitely capable of more heavy lifting than any bullet I've run out if a big 6... let alone a .22CF...

I've not shot anything lighter than 123s in this rifle... and frankly don't plan on it. I've seen plenty of stuff nuked with the 95 Vmax to know they're rather nasty.

Yea too bad you can't get them to shoot. I'm sending the parts off for a 260 AI build next week and have a couple hundred 123's I got from aalf , - the one he stole before he shipped them to me. Hope mine shoots as well as yours.

Dog,

Don't get me wrong! I love it.... Just got a 1000 of the 100 grain A Max recently, plus I am sitting on maybe 1000 of the 100 Grain Ballistic Tips also...

Like you, if they don't go airborne when hit, how much fun is that...

bang flop is for deer hunting, not prairie dogs and sage rats...

I'd rather drop a couple of 100 prairie dogs in an afternoon than take a bull elk anyday...

That is why one of my favorite pics on the campfire has been where Shrapnel posts that pic of a prairie dog coming apart at about 8 ft in the air....exploding like the Space Shuttle did over Cape Kennedy back in the 80s...

My personal favorite shot tho, is to bounce an explosive bullet right in front of one, so when hit, they really go Airborne...

but Kudos on the Lobotomy pic tho... I love that one!

Dogshooter have you tried the Hornady 123 SST. I just picked up a box from Midway and hope they shoot as well as teh AMAX or at least close.
