You'd have been better off stating the same against a handgun. Both at 25 yards...no rests.
'Bout 20 years ago we had a hot shot bowman at our club who annoyed everyone bragging about what a great archer/hunter he was. One of those guys who constantly ran his mouth about archers being better hunters than guys with rifles, etc.
I know dedicated archers that actually are a cut above the average rifle hunter and more power to 'em, but that was not the point. None of them flap their gums like this guy did.
Never bothered me much, because I tend to ignore windbags and braggarts. Then one day he hopped on me while some of us were talking about hunting deer with a handgun, said most weren't powerful/accurate enough to cleanly take a deer.
Offshoot was, I offered to fire 5 shots with my M629 at 50 yards and he could do the same with his bow and five arrows, tighter group settled that haggle. IIRC he wanted to wager some money, but I said just the effort is all that's needed.
He was positive he could "out shoot" me at 50 yards, but it turned out he wanted to use some official 50 yard field archery target, while I just fired for group size. Said nope. We each put up a piece of paper and shoot at it. Tightest group wins. Ended that'un on the spot.
If three or more people think you're a dimwit, chances are at least one of them is right.
I seen it go the other way too. Let the average guy pull out his 9mm and an experienced archer shot is high tech compound. Both at 25 yards...a three shot group is good enough.
I'm a rifle guy and I'd never bet against a rifle. A handgun is another story....especially in the hands of the average guy.
I enjoy handguns and I really like shotguns,...but I love rifles!
I thought everybody else would be watching football with their new GF like me last night.
I realize it's a bold claim. But yeah, I'm betting that I shoot my compound better than the once a year guy at the rifle range with his open sight 30-30. Not BGG, not BD, not Dave.
But, shooting a bow offhand, and the average guy shooting his 30-30 offhand, I'm betting I could do good things As sick as I was last week, I shot a FITA 60 indoor with a compound for the first time in 12 years with the Bowtech for a 294/32X Lots of room for improvement On the 50 yard indoor line, I can hold "4 ring" groups on the 40CM/18meter targets all day long. I'm really not that good of an archer with a compound, but I don't suck.
I shoot 100 plus arrows a day, every day, and I have for the last 3 years.
I would also spend an afternoon at BGGs with a case of beer and see how close 40 rounds for record would be between the two of us. I've seen him shoot a rifle, and I'm sure he'd beat me at 50 yards offhand. I'm also sure it'd be a fun time and I'd make a good showing...

Fookin' wowzers! Doesn't leave much time for anything else now, does it? Perhaps a few minutes per day to spew BS on the 'net?
Here's a clue: One of the best archers I've known over the past 28 years, can consistantly hit 2" squares of duct tape on a foam block (broad heads) at distances up to 50 yards. He used to be able to do that out to 70, when he was a tad younger and shooting an 80lb draw compound.
He doesn't shoot 100 arrows a day or anything close to that, but for when they're shooting 28 target field competitions over a two day period, coupla times per year. I must tell him he doesn't quite measure up.
You should be famous by now, eh? Sorry to interrupt, now back to da nekkid ladies.
