I was at a garage sale this weekend and picked up 3 old boxes of M-S Remington Kleanbore 160 grain cartridges that are labeled for use in the 1903 rifle.

One box has a dozen or so soft point steel jacketed cartridges that have a headstamp of 6.5 x 54.

There are also a number of cartridges with a headstamp of 6.7. They and the other box of 6.5m/m cartridges are all softpoint copper jacketed.

What's with the steel jackets?

they were popular for use on heavy game....remember controlled expansion bullets were in their infancy and alot of experimenting was being done....

magnet sticks to some cupronickel too. Cupronickel has some iron content.

I have old Norma CN bullets that a magnet sticks to.

BTW the 6.7 mark on some is normal....IIRC depending on source there were 3 separate diameters they were labeled as.....can get yah them all tonight when i get back home to my books if i remember to.....i picked up a couple boxes of old Kyonch 6.5x54 a year or so back cause i have a Greek Military M-S in 6.5x54(the boxes and rounds for display, not shooting)....only thing is what i got was the 6.5x53R for the earlier Romanian/Dutch gun crazy

nope havent.....dont have the stuff to do it and havent decided if im going to keep it or scrap it anyway cause i want to make it into more of a early Jeffery sporter i have pics of which requires a longer barrel(my gun has already been butchered, not cutting up a good collectible gun).....not to mention ammo is a bit hard to find.....someone was supposed to come out with some this year according to a press release last winter but ive not seen it actually materialize on price lists....

Do you need dies? I have a set of RCBS 6.5x54 dies in very good, nay excellent condition with shell holder for $45. Check what RCBS is asking. I'm thinking the steel jacket bullets might be Norma.

Our forefathers did not politely protest the British. They did not vote them out of office, nor did they impeach the king, march on the capitol or ask permission for their rights. ----------------They just shot them.
