Cooper model 22 Classic

Best,

Gwb

Thanks.

Was planning a build on Hagn/Martini metal in a vanilla Bob. Didn't work out. Thinking maybe a High Wall version but haven't a clue who to work with on the project. Plan A was with a very capable 'smith but his backlog might have him making delivery to my widowed wife. Chitt.

Cooper's an option I probably ought to examine.

Well, let's see,

I had planned to go and cook this year. The hunt ended up being in Pecos NM rather than Capitan this year. Evidently this hasn't been the best year for bears. Out of 4 guys in the party, my son was the only one that took a bear. Course when it comes to killin' stuff, GB3 is almost as lucky as yours truly.

Complications set in when my daughter-in-law's army reserve unit was activated recently. She's gone for a year, leaving my son with a 5 year old, a 17 year old step-son and a growing business. She left Friday morning a week ago. We were to leave for the hunt the next day on Saturday. My daughter was out of town also. That left my wife alone to keep up with a very active 5 year old and a 17 year old who recently got his drivers license and first vehicle (also thinks he's a stud) for the better part of a week, with no help. I decided it would be best if I stayed in town to help/ride herd.

And as to the hunt, It went fine for my son....

Last Monday was the first day of the hunt. Shortly after shooting light the dogs caught scent and went bat-[bleep] crazy. After a pretty good chase they treed a bear. When GB3 and the guide/dog man got up near where the bear was treed, the bear jumped down and five dogs immediately latched onto him. He took off running taking the hounds with him. GB3 said he ran about 200 yds and went up another tree. My son shot him with a 500 S&W out of a 20 encore barrel. Knocked him right out

[Linked Image]

Wednesday morning he had the opportunity to take a cow elk at 275 yds with his Encore in 7mag using 150 gr. Ballistic silvertips. FWIW they found the jacket embedded in the offside hide.
[Linked Image]

Said the cow weighed right at 500 lbs.

[Linked Image]

+/- 210 lbs of boned out meat.

Having the backstraps and the hinds from the bear made into jalepeno cheese summer sausage.
Doing the elk into steaks, hamburger, dry sausage, and breakfast sausage, with the backstraps butterflied and tenderized.

Ive paid only $200 so far, but all the meat will go in my freezers, so Id say the hunt went pretty well.

Best,

GWB

Think so! Hard to go wrong with pre-enjoyed Coopers.

It's a pre-enjoyed (as are most of my rifles) single shot that I put on lay-away at a Cooper dealer. Got it for right at 12 Benjamins. I bet it will shoot with most any custom. Got both the Roberts and the AI dies and some 110 gr. Accubonds and plenty of brass just waiting. I've got a dhingy (as opposed to a ship) coming in next Wednesday so I will bail it out. Hopefully will have it ready for opening weekend of rifle season on 11/2.

Best

GWB
