Tuesday I had the chance to get out and shoot a recently acquired TC Venture .300 Win. Mag.
The weather was cold and windy and I didn't have a lot of time so I just ran some Winchester 150 grain PP factory ammo thru it to get the Burris 3-9 FF II scope on paper then tested it more thoroughly and zeroed it my "standard" .300 Win. Mag. load of 70 grains of H4350, 165 grain Nosler BT, Fed. 215 primer and Winchester cases.
This load is pure poison on deer and with the current "toughened" Ballistic Tips its doesn't shoot the meat up or go to flinders if a shoulder is hit.
The 150 factory load did about 1.25 MOA groups ( I didn't chrono it)and the 165 hand load came in at .75 MOA and averaged 3,025 fps over the chronograph.
I like the Venture. It weighs 8 lb 6 oz all up. The trigger is very nice breaking at just a hair under 3 lbs with zero creep and a nice crisp pull. Its feeds very slickly though the detachable magazine will have OAL issues if some of the longer VLD type bullets are used.
Like most factory stocks it is a might short on LOP for me. So, I used an SVT slip on recoil pad to help better accommodate my long ape arms ( I have to do this with almost stocks).
This said. The stock is very well thought out in design and handles the .300 recoil nicely. In fact, the Venture is the most comfortable non-braked .300 magnum I have ever shot from the bench.
I plan to hunt with it some this season and do more testing of loads after the hunting season and holidays are over.

Glad to hear you like it. I have batted the idea of picking up a venture, but just haven't done so yet. Allegedly they were going to offer them in 6.5x55, but I haven't seen one yet.
Good luck this season.

I had one in .270 decent rifle that shot very well. There were just some things about it that never made it feel right for me. Sold it to a buddy who was looking for a rifle for deer and elk. Short story is that he loves the rifle, and has already taken a couple of deer with it.

Good luck this season. I'd be on a Swede in the Venture like a duck on a junebug. Hope you kill a bunch this year too.

They did a special run of 6.5x284, but I've never seen one of those either.
I did have a 223 that was uber accurate though...
I enjoy handguns and I really like shotguns,...but I love rifles!

Stainless with camo pattern stocks, IIRC (looked a lot like the "predator" version). probably would have been wise to snatch one up.

A 6.5-284 in the venture would be really Sweet.

Very Nice. Did they build it on the short or long action?

My BIL got one in 30-06, it got recalled for some issue.
It shoots okay, good action and barrel but the stock makes me yak. Shoots the Ballistic Silver Tips into about 1.5 @100yds. Trigger seems to be set at about 100 bs, needs to be taken down to under 3.
Good deer gun, but NO long ranger !!! IMO. plus it is BUTT UGLY!!! but he doesn't care and this is what matters.

My 30-06 was very accurate, well exceeded the 1MOA rating with most factory ammo. Sold it to a buddy who still likes it. They are great guns for the money, hell they are great guns.

I think its interesting that the ICON's seem to be completely gone from TC's lineup, but they are still cranking out these ventures.

Very Nice. Did they build it on the short or long action? long action. those groups pictured come from a load that averages a true 3400fps. MPBR of 350+ yds makes for a laser flat load. the barrel is 24" too.

Hey someone had to pay for all those TV shows featuring it I had one in 308 it was scary accurate, a bit on the portly side but accurate

nope. Don't see any need to if you don't shoot in the next zip-code, and I don't like target bullets for hunting. Regardless of what Berger says, they don't make a hunting bullet. Try using those berger "hunting" bullets when the game isn't posing there for you broadside. The Hornady interlock, SST or Nosler BT will do anything I need to do.
