Lots of fun when they think they're protecting their nest. They just haven't learned not to do that crap when I'm standing on the front porch with the Gamo Whisper. Just bring it!

With me it is my chinwerkbau and cowbirds 10-15 yards away on or near my feeder for the other birds.
For those in the driveway the speed of sound gives them a chance to move before the pellet gets there since my pellet is only moving 875 fps (measured).

I wish I didn't live in town, where I can't deploy an airgun. Those dirty bastids are crapping all over my place, and especially the mailbox. I have the house up for sale, and it doesn't help its curb appeal. They even seem to come in a curve from the side, sort of like a fighter bomber, judging from the trajectory and how they hit the side of the house.

I am in the city limits, but in a 1/2 acre lot development that's on the edge of town. My neighbors don't care. I have a police detective 3 doors down and an ATF guy across the street. They know what I'm doing and they don't care.

Somebody pm'd me and reminded me that Grackles are protected. I don't care about that, either. There's an out if they're considered a nuisance or health hazard. So I don't think anything's ever enforced around these parts. We have huge concentrations in and around town. I kill them whenever I get a chance.

How loud is that Gamo Whisper. I've been looking at those for the same type of thing. I've got starlings crapping all over everything and there's only so many my boston terrier can kill and eat before he gets sick.

It's not as loud as the RWS, but it's not really quiet. Just a little less loud.

I drank a few beers the other day while my kids were shooting in the backyard. I could definitely tell that it was a little quieter.

Before I got them set up, I walked to the back fence and took care of this with the RWS.

I shoot a whisper at squirrels that go after my fruits and vegetables in my backyard. Its a 17 cal, and it does make some noise. When I shoot, I crack open my back door, which is one of those sliding glass doors, and shoot from inside the house. I do this to help soak up the noise and keep my neighbors off my tail. More often than not, the 17 doesn't have enough pop to bring down a squirrel on the spot. I am thinking about bumping up to a 20 or 22 cal.

I had a den of groundhogs under my one shed in the back yard last year, I let them get bigger, just before they left the den to be on there own before I interduced them to lead poisoning. My RWS 34 22cal made short work of them, range was 35 to 40 yards, only the mom took 2 shots to do her in. The first one was in the head but she was jumping around like a jumping bean, so I gave her one more.

Try some pointed pellets for better penetration.
Of course, even then they are hard to put down quickly

Not sure how it works in Texas but here it is anything that is doing or about to do damage to your property is fair game or, if you are on private land and a designee of the property owner. Also the health hazard issue can be used. But do be careful because all it takes is one a-hole. I happened to remind my neighbor that included her cat that is continuously chitting in my garden making it a litter box. Then happened to refer to the DNR law stating that feral cats are fair game and that is was pretty vague.... The cats been inside all summer smile

Popped another Grackle last weekend. They had a nest in the live oak right in front of our front door. They raised a little too much hell and I popped the female. Tried to get my son a shot, but they were not giving us anything. Fired about 5 pellets into the nest and I guess we were successful because there's no more Grackles and no more noise.

That's a well trained Grackle on the blanket. The first one is playing dead too isn't he????

Good day today. Moved into a new house 2 Thursday's ago. Pulled into the drive to meet the HVAC guy and saw grackels had been harrassing my dogs in the backyard eating their dogfood. Luckily, I had moved my daughter's Gamo Whisper. Shot 4 with 3 pellets. They were lined up along the top of the fence when they fell victim.

I bought my Brother a Gamo Whisper for Christmas last year. He loves it. He's been cleaning the squirrels out of his pear tree and I'll tell you, in his back yard, inside his 6' fence it is loud. Outside the fence, you don't really hear it. Not enough to suspect anything is going on. My .20 cal Beeman R 10 is much louder. I always shoot from well back within the house.
