I've owned a lot of 700's and 600's and never had an issue with the extractor. About 30 years ago I had a 721 extractor wear out and Remington replaced it, no cost. The Remington engineer told me that that was their last extractor for the 721's. I now see that Brownell's have extractors for 700's versions with and without rivets.
The 721's extractor was different that the 700's due to the 700's having rivets. I'm wondering if the Brownell's rivetless extractors can be used as is or as modified in the 721's and 722's.

The newer rivetless extractors used in current production 700's is a different animal than was used in the 721/722 rifles. Doubt they will work as is and more hesitant yet that the bolt face could be remachined for the current production model? Not much material there to work with/modify.

The early 700's with small bolt face up to at least 107,XXX and the first XP's used the 722 extractor type. Were than changed to a riveted extractor of the same design as the standard bolt face. Just a FYI.

Respectfully,
Dennis

Is there a 721 replacement extractor available or could a 700 extractor be made to work? I'm considering purchasing a very well worn 721 and the only concern I have is the extractor. I'd replace the barrel with an after market 35 Whelen barrel and the stock with a 700 stock I bought a while back, purchase a 700 LA BDL floor plate assemble, replace the trigger with a 700 which I recently purchased. But I won't if there are no solutions to replacing the extractor (I feel that modifying the extractor to a M16 style is open for all kinds of legal issues and will not do that.)

Ive seen some 700 series bolts that had Sako style extractors installed. Personally I'd consult with a competent gunsmith.

the 721 and 700 extractors are different. I thought I saw someone selling 721 ext awhile back but I may be mistaken. I have run across a few 700 ext. that have been installed in 721-22s and they are a little loose and don't extract reliably. sako style is the fix, and a much better extractor
check out Wiesner's, Brownells ect/ they may hav made a run of 721 extractors
I don't know what legal issues you would have, if it is your gun and there is a failure you wouldn't sue yourself. it is possible for a sako extractor to come out of an action in a case rupture situation, that is the purpose of the little bar on the sako bolt. (old ones) I have never seen or for that matter heard of any one who has had it happen. i have only had 1 case rupture in 35 years of reloading and it was a 700 chambered for a wildcat 25-308 and that rifle has a sako extractor and i had no issues.
