I've got my old Mauser Rem6mmBR with its half shot out barrel up at my G.S.'s. I figured to make it into a repeater, which the Rem6BR ain't. So by taking a clean white sheet of paper, I designed from scratch, a maximum capacity 6mm cartridge, which is optimized for a CRF military Mauser M-98 action.

I have named this kitty, the "243 VampKat", and its being put into my rifle with a wildcat PT&G reamer and GO head space gauge. Dave Kiff used his computer program to finesse my 1.1 caliber long neck. This chamber shouldn't require neck reaming, but we'll see how that works out.

This old take off 26 inch 6mm Shilen barrel still does half minute of angle grups, so it should have enough life left in it to prove or disprove this concept.

I won't know how close I am to the capacity of a 6mm x 06, until I can measure a fired case. That looks to be sometime in March. Think of it as a rimless 6mm x 458 American, made on a 300 RCM parent case, with a .252 inch long neck. The shoulders on a 6mm x 350 Rem. Mag. wildcat should prevent this belted wildcat from going into my chamber. And ditto that for the 6mm x 284 Wln. wildcat.

Putting in all my case taper, necking down, and pushing my shoulders back, should make these cases elongate to a nominal 55mm. To cut down on the excitement, I'm using open iron sights on it to do all my chrono'ing, as I work up my first loads. My goal here is to get 100 gr. Flat Based Spitzers to fly true, way out thar! If this works out, it should be a super Antelope and Yote rifle, as a kind of 220 Swift, homologued up to the 6mm bore.

Just like the Gov't biologist's, burro control accounts, in Parker Ackley's book, I want to have all of the blood coagulated into a pseudo organ, when I shoot em' out at five to six hundred yards. Where and when this works, it reverses normal rigor mortis, and that's where my VampKat's name comes from.

But its a real small niche, so far only occupied by the 220 Swift's factory 45 gr. ammo. I may have to pack some hollow point bullets with metallic sodium, to get the party started.

But one way or the other, this is my 2014 project. I'm having Neil Jones Products in PA. do a F.L. bushing die to help get me down to my longish 243 caliber neck.

I'm sacrificing case stretching, heavy bullets, and barrel burnout, in order to build my super CRF 243 magnum. We'll just have to see if I have my ducks, all in a row, by this time next year.

My three previous wildcats, have been quite conservative, with reliable feeding, being their main objectives. This is the first one which will also be really high performance, in its own right.

Nuthin' thrilling but I may drop a pre 64 M70 FW 30/06 in an Echols Legend Edge stock but will have to save my allowance for at least 2-3 weeks to come up with the $15k to do it..... whistle smile

The 280 Remington is overbore.

The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.
