[img:left] [/img] I killed this muskox with my Ruger stainless Bisley, 5 1/2 .45 colt. I used a Cast Performance 300 gr LNFP at 1150fps. He took two shots to the lungs in rapid succession, went about twenty yards, and piled up. He's the biggest critter to fall to the .45 Colt for me thus far.

You'll like it. The only things I changed on mine was to add some checkered cocobolo grips and change the front sight out with a blade from Dave Clements. Much better than the factory option.

My early one needed the throats opened up, I installed a narrow (.100") Clements front sight and did a trigger job on it adding the stouter Old Army hammer spring. Shoots great.

Glad to see this old thread revived. A couple of revolvers chambered for the grand old cartridge. One for most seasons

I'm pretty sure Brian Simpson and Cliff Weyiouanna of Wittrock Outfitters are fast becoming believers of the 45 Colt. Alan

Ha! Of the five musk ox killed that week, mine took the fewest shots to bring down. The others were shot with a bow, .30-06, .300wm, and a .500 s&w. Two of them ended up being sort of epic debacle kills, including a huge bull which was finished off with my gun. I'll never forget one assistant guide saying "Hardcasts? You have hardcasts? Use the .45, we need penetration!"
I asked Cliff if there was an award for having the least shot muskox. He just kind of gave a low moan and said "oooh no"

LOL. Sounds like Cliff.
The "debacle kills", were they poor shot placement or projectile failure?

Both!
One was due to using cup and core bullets on such a beast fifty yards away at .300 win mag impact velocities, which (after four or five rounds) resulted in one lung being pretty well pulped yet with no penetration to the off side lung.
The other two debacles involved lots of shooting around the edges with a .500 and lobbing arrows Agincourt style followed by more shooting around the edges with the .500

I wouldn't be parted from my Bisley. Love the way it shoots and carries.

Alan Hi Alan! Jack Huntington made them for me. He does fantastic grip work as well as modifying the grip frame.

Before going up to Alaska in '08 I tested a new 625 Mtn Gun against my 4-5/8" NMBH. Of course the BH was stronger and I took it to Ak. Upon return, being cash poor I sold the Mtn Gun much to my chagrin. Well, today, I'm sending out a cashiers check for another I found on Gunbroker last week. This time, as long as it's sound, it's staying put. As I understand it, the large S&W logo on the right side is indicative of a Lipsey's special; right? Alan

I have its twin and won't likely part with it. Honestly, though, I have yet to shoot any acp through it. I'm undecided whether it's coming to TN or if the Mountain Gun gets the bid. George
