One of my buddies swore off Partions after a 210 out of a 338WM tumbled then penciled on a six point elk. He got the elk after tracking through two valleys later.

downwindtracker2 i have never heard of a partition tumbling and i have been known to drive them from 2000 fps to 3500 fps. they do not fly the flattest, hit the hardest hell they are not the best of anything i guess, but they are better then most and have never failed me.
I would be very interested to hear more on the 210gr failure as that si the bullet i use in both of my .338's

FWIW:
139 FB Spire Points was my first grab in working loads for my 7x57. I don't see much of an advantage in "premium" bullets at the velocities I will get out of an 18" barrel with 47-50 gr H4350 (cribbed from JB's "Handloads that Work").
I'll see how they shoot this weekend.

Stick 8 shots on a bear I would switch too.My dad's a huge fan of barnes and he's working on converting me towards them.As it sit now my 300 is the only barnes gun.The rest shoot hornady IB and nosler parts.I'm waiting to try that new MR-X when i see them.A 140 grainer should shoot wonders from a 7mm.

I haven`t shot as many animals as a lot of hunters here but, I`ve had, or seen kills on well over over a dozen whitetail between my brother and I with Inter-Loc, plus 3 caribou, and only have seen one recovered spire point. The bullet was recovered from the neck/high chest of a fork horn that took it in the rear ham and was laying on the off side just above the first rib. The deer was already hit and didn`t drop at the first shot. -a bit far back in the ribs, broadside- Range was ~125-150 yds, bullet 180 gr SP, 308 Win at ~2400+ FPS muzzle vel. I`ve used then in 30-06, 308, 7-08, 270, 260, and 6.5x55s with equal results. IMO they are a great deer size game bullet.

He was a good animal and squared 7'6" flopped out green on the ground, with noone touching or any stakes in the hide. He crossed hill and dale, with me in hot pursuit. It was a cluster [bleep]. But..I'll never forget that day........................

Poot..,
This thread started out about 'medium game'. To me that's a grass eater no more than 300lbs. Interlocks kill stuff like that as dead as last summers romance.
That applies to most black bears I've seen. However, the biggest blackie I ever saw stood flat footed and looked over the hood of my jeep. Now that ain't medium game ! The bear you refer to doesn't sound like medium game either. We're talking about a 500lb. meateater and damn if I wouldn't be using a stronger bullet ...or a bit bigger rifle . At this point we're talkin' baby grizzley.

Hi..,
The longest deer recovery I was ever involved in (can't call it trailing because there was no blood trail ) with was because of a partition. Now I only use interlock or cup and core bullets. Differant strokes,I guess. However, no more 'premium' bullets on whitetails for me!

Mallard..,
I used a 286gr. partition in a 9.3X62 to shoot a black wildebeast around 125yds. Struck him quartering in the left front shoulder. Sounded like a truck wreck. Bullet penetrated about 3.5 ft, turned around backward and stuck out throught the hide ,base first in front of the right hip. The petals on the mushroom caught under the hide and prevented it from exiting. I caught a lot of grief about "What are you shooting? It didn't break the skin.".....til they figgered out it was exiting. It took two more shots to end the issue.
Partitions are not a super bullet. They do not always penetrate, they do sometimes tumble, they do not always leave a blood trail. Good, but not perfect. Especially on lighter game.

I've yet to launch the bullet, that read Birth Certificates,or Tenacity Tickets.
What I have launched,is bullets of "reknown",that failed horribly.
In retrospect,I've learned of projectiles that are the complete opposite of those characteristics and I do dote upon them.
X or bust.................

I cain't like it in anything, except Vermin or head shots.
Gimme an X........................... Well you go ahead with the Barnes, If I decide a premium is called for I'm going with the best, NORTHFORK. With a BC of a cast bullet. No thanx

Well boys I guess that's what makes a horse race now isn't it. You guys go ahead and use the bullets from the outfit that had to invest in a chemical company to come up with a formula that would take the residue from their bullets off the innards of a perfectly good barre.

I've had a smattering of barrels and have shot X's in all of 'em,for a single reason.
