I'm glad they did invest in said chem co, cause their juice works great on cleaning up other company's boolit skins too.

Sure have considered the partition....just haven't got my hands on any yet....H4350 will only push them to 3200 or so....I called Hornady and they said for my application they should hold up plenty well.....
Sorry if the weight retention/exit sounded confusing...just looking for field experience feedback....I get consistent exits from 100gr ballistic tips FWIW.....
Appreciate your feedback.....Greg Looks like you're shooting Texas whitetails and the "boys" are telling you about bear hunting "failures". Spend $10 a peice for bullets if you want to for deer hunting. Bottom line ....any cup and core bullet in any reasonable caliber will work and probably work better than any premium bullet. The worst mess I ever got into was with a Nolser Partition (on whitetails) and the guy who owns the farm I hunt banned them from his place after that. It is not necessary to shoot plumb thru a whitetail and another 10' into the landscape. You only need to shoot halfway thru a whitetail!

I shot quite a few moose with the 30-06 and BTSP Hornady Interlocks in both 165 and 180 gr. At '06 velocities (some in the +P range ) they worked real good. Recovered one from a large cow shot through both shoulders. Recovered in the off side shoulder roast in the spring of the next year. It started life as a 180, and it still weighed 154 grains. Nicely mushroomed - classic looking bullet.
When I went to the 300 mag, I started with the Hornady IL, and ended after I shot the first deer. Results were "explosive." My MV in the '06 was about 2750 - 2800 fps. In the 300 WM it was 3140 fps. It was enough too much that I bought a box of Partitions and a box of TSX's to see if they would shoot. They both do, but the TSX holds a little tighter group. (Both sub 1".) The TSX got the nod (168 gr) and it has killed well everything I've ever shot. Lotsa largish bucks in the 250 - 280 pound class. Every one was a one shot 'bang-flop.' Haven't recovered a bullet yet, and every animal has two holes in it - one on either side.
At the moderate velocities of standard cartridges, I think the IL work fine, but at magnum velocities, give me the premiums.
Ranch13,
Do you think those 405W 300 grainers are shedding weight because of the large amount of lead exposed on the tips? And you are likely using the FP in the Winchester 95, right? Have you tried the 300 gr X yet? I got some, and am thinking of giving them a dance. I'll keep you posted.

I couldn't keep a 7-08 fueled 120TSX in a broadside Moose.
Deer cain't like it either.......................

Shootist I haven't shot any game with the fp's. I didn't like the way the went to pot in the backstops . Last fall's elk was shot with the soft point , I just don't think hornady has the jacket thickness down pat on the .411's yet. Haven't tried the Barnes, if they were to TSX that bullet I might try them, but in the meantime the Northfork does just what I need it to do, and the Hornady Interlocs do an excellent job in everything else.
the most expensive bullet there is isn't worth a plug nickel if it don't go where its supposed to. www.historicshooting.com

No kidding!!!! The partition is the gold standard which all other bullet's are judged against. If the guy banned partitions he must have been nuckin futs!!!!
Please explain how the partition failed in such a dramatic way that one would ban them from use???

Dave,
No joke, that guy must be nucking futs to ban the use of Partitions................
I will say one thing regarding Hornady bullets, they are damn accurate and the Inter Bonds really rock. I whacked a few does with them last season and was impressed with the results. I purposely took short range shots with my 270WSM loaded to the gills with the 130IB @ 3300 (magpro is wunnerful shict (TT) in a 270WSM).
Fort all I know they are in orbit because I didn't recover any of them, even after punching through the shoulders of one doe. Shot was about 70 yards so the impact velocity had to be WAY up there. No problemo......

POP,
In my 270WSM and 7SHAMU, I got excellent accuracy...well under MOA. (130 .270 and 139 7mm)
In my sons .270, I have seen better groups out of my 870 Express.
JJHACK, posted alot of good things to say about the 165 .30 cal IB in his '06. I believe that he got real good accuracy in it.
Tony.

One well-placed shot from a 180 Hornady Interlock SP out of the 300 Win would have smoked that bear with ease. The 165s are not the best choice for bear out of a 300, even Hornady would have told you that.
I think the failure was due more to the choice of weight than the brand of bullet. The 180 is heavier jacketed and would have had less velocity. I use this bullet as a regular in my 300 win.
