Shot one last year for the first time with a 243. Made a piss poor shot and hit the deer in the neck with an 85 gr TSX...dropped like a sack of potatoes.

6.5 Swede in a German custom guild mauser was used during the regular rifle season. 243 Winchester out of a Husqvarna 456 was used during the late antlerless only season.
Both first time kills with those cartridges for me.

Will Munny: It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have.
The Schofield Kid: Yeah, well, I guess they had it coming.
Will Munny: We all got it coming, kid.

Caught this buck on a feeder while checking game cams. I pulled out the Hi-Power and put a 135 grain Hornady behind the shoulder at about 30 yards. Took a couple of steps..

I've seen a few threads over the years asking which cartridges you've killed deer with but never one for first-time kills with a certain cartridge. So, what new cartridge did you guys christen this past season? Mine was...... 270Win beautiful rifle !!!

Missed der season last year, no hunting at Gitmo. Looking forward to changing that next year, thinking Krag with cast bullets for antler less.

Re-barreled a old Rem 700 SA to 257 Roberts last year. Shot my first deer with it late in the season, a doe that dropped to the shot at about 75 yards. I think I like it.

Husqvarna 146 built in 1938. Calibre 9.3 x 57. Wifey gave it to me for Christmas back in 2009.
