Thanks for the offer, Goalie. I'll have something put together by this fall for sure. I'm actually thinking about just swapping my 99 for my kid's Model 7 7mm-08. I all ready talked to Mickey Coleman about doing some work on it for me. Just might do this. Kinda waiting to see how all this medical BS plays out. Gonna be looking for a 20 ga. slug gun too. I've been looking for a good excuse to put my damned shoulder-crushing 12 ga. 870 aside. Thinking one of those bolt action jobs everyone's raving about.

The Savage 220? I was looking at those also. I quickly changed my mind when I saw that they don't have open sights on them. They must be scoped. (At least the ones I've seen) Where I hunt with shotgun, a scope could hurt you as much as help you.

I decided to purchase the 870 in 20 ga but have not pulled the trigger yet. No pun intended

A buddy of mine bought a Savage 220 and had me mount a scope for him. After shooting it, I have to say I was rather impressed.

It shot darn close to MOA at 100 yards, and that was just with some random slugs.

I second the Tikka Stainless Lightweight recommendation. Throw a set of Talley One Piece Lightweight rings on them with a decent scope. Will out shoot rifles costing over twice as much. Smoothest bolt action I have ever used too.

Like both of them, but if I could only have one it would be the Tikka.

Hell, I forgot about the tikka. That's a cheap, light option! Sorry Ryan, when I think of light carrying rifle, Ruger ain't it.

I have a Tikka in .243 Shoots better than I am capable of anymore, and it has the smoothest action I have ever ran.

BM, great news about Cole. Glad for you both.

GG, glad you are home. Sorry you need to deal with health issues. Noticed you are getting lots of help with your search for a lightweight rifle. Gun talk tends to pump up the post count around here. Just sayin. wink

mine is lighter than my ruger SS 223 (laminate stock) it's the lightest rifle I own in fact. my ruger is the ultralight, I just looked up it is 6.5 lbs. Ruger made 14 variations of the Hawkeye (I didn't know that). the all weather UL new one is a tad lighter than the older ones like mine.

Glad to hear Cole is doing better. Sorry I'm so late getting back on this. With my restrictions, boredome is rapidly setting in. I just posted a thread in the freshwater fishing section about building fishing rods. I need something that's not strenuous to occupy my time. If anyone builds their own fishing rods, I'd like to talk to them. Check out the thread and shoot me a reply. A couple days home and I'm all ready climbing the walls. Thought about getting my reloading ambitions going, but I'm going to wait and see where this crap takes me, plus I couldn't do any load testing at this point any ways.

My son is talking about getting a Ruger American Compact in 243 for the GS. Said it fit him perfectly.

Set a new daily low temp record at 4:00 AM this morning, minus 25. It's up to minus 10 now, 7:00AM.

How bout runnin to walmart and picking up one of the model cars, some glue, and a shiny paint color and work on that. I was thinking of doing that the other day when I was there. It's been a long time since I played with a model car.
