I read on here, a while back, how to determine the year of manufacture of a Marlin 336 by using the serial number. Could someone please re-post that? Thanks

1949 is an F prefix and they went alphabetical order to up in the 1960's. The next series is no letter and subtract the first 2 digits from 100, i.e. 211144 would be 100-21=79 or 1979. Somewhere along the line the first digit or two was the year but I am not sure when that was (late 1960's???perhaps not).

Believe that this serialization method was introduced in 1973. 1972 and earlier (how early I can't recall) the first 2 digits indicated the year.
I never thought I'd grow up to be a grumpy old man, but I did, and I'm killin' it.

OK, I got some more info: The letters went to like 1964 and then went AA, AB, etc until 1968. 1968-1972 are 68,69,70,71,72. The minus from 100 started in 1973.

From 1973-present just subtract the 1st 2 digits from 100 on MOST models. Some of the limited runs and a few others don't fit the pattern.
Most people don't really want the truth.
They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.
