All the years building points finally paid off and I was lucky enough to draw a type 1 area 19 elk tag. I know this may not be the area to burn max points on but I've hunted there a fair bit for deer and antelope (mostly in the Muddy Mtn. HMA, south of Bates rd) and usually see elk. This will be a DYI solo hunt and I wanted a place that I would not kill myself trying to get an elk out of.
I'm looking for any information that I can get from anybody familiar with the area. The opener is Oct. 1st most likely, I'll be out there early to scout. This will be my first bull elk hunt. Thanks, wish me luck!

Congrats on the draw and good luck, too!
Choosing an area you know and know contains elk is probably better than a new area that may contain more elk but is otherwise unknown.

Thanks Coyote Hunter, I hope my plan works! It's a very limited quota, and I know the elk density is not high but it would only take one...just hope I find him!
