Howdy all,
I'm looking for some hints on curing my 3 y.o. weimies "hard" mouth. He retrieves the dummy, bringing it back chewing the hell out of it, and he's done it on a few birds too.
I'm about to the point of using the blunt porkypine dummy (nails with the points clipped off driven through a block, covered by wings.) is this the best method? Only method?
Thanks, Gary

Wolters recommends using a hard bristle scrub brush.

Get a copy of the Tri-tronics Force Fetch videos, or Bill Tarrants "Hey Pup. Fetch it up" book and follow them. I actually recommend both resources. The video will show you how, Tarrant's book. if you can get hold of a copy, will explain the psychology behind the procedure and how to apply pressure without an e-collar if you do not use one.
There are other resources that explain "Force Fetch / Trained Retrieve". Most all of them are good.
BE glad to help if I can Kevin

finish nails, pounded into a peice of shovel handle. Leave 3/16 of the head sticking out.

I had same problem with a Boykin years ago. Used Wolters scrub brush method, AND the best thing was green pine cones like we have here in the south that can be about half the length and just as big around as a dummy. They wont chomp down but once on one of those bad boys! Once they get in the habit of not chomping and chewing then your good to go.
