Looking at 2 trucks�.

First is an 06 double cab TRD with 43,000 miles on it for $16,000

Second is an 08 double cab with 88,000 miles for $14,000

Both trucks are 4x4 and I have 2 kids under the age of 2 that I haul around with me from time to time. The 06 DC has a bigger back seat even though its a smaller truck

I LOVE the 1st gens and am leaning towards the 06 right now. The engine and drivetrain are bulletproof

From your limited info I'd go with the 06 .

I had a first generation Tundra TRD Limited and loved it! It was indeed bullet proof. Truth be told, I wish I still had it. I've ridden in plenty of 2nd generation Tundras too. To me it boils down to this: If towing is not important, go 1st Gen. If you tow a lot, definitely go 2nd Gen. I loved most everything about my 1st Gen EXCEPT its ability to tow. It's a small V8 and NOT great for towing.

You buy the '06 and if the '08 has the 5.7 and isn't black or that electric blue, I'd be interested in it. At that price I'm bettin it has the 4.7 though.

My brother has an 06 with 4.10 gears and the 4.7. It ain't a 3/4 ton, but it ain't that bad either.

I know Toyota had some issues with the 07's, not sure if they got the bugs worked out by the time the 08's came out or not. I'd lean toward the 06 myself.

06 would be my first choice and if you look at the price differences between 06 and 08 and mileage it appears most agree that the 06 is the most valuable truck.

For sure if I didn't tow much I'd get the '06.
Better built, maybe, full size bed, and more room for the kiddos.
Mileage is gonna be a wash and the '08 is right around the corner from needing a timing belt.

I thought you sold the 4R and bought a new Tundra, no?

I didn't end up getting the new truck. I'm just so damn hard on em I couldn't justify spending $40k again to beat it up

I'd pick the 06

I had an 06 and it was the best truck I've ever had. ZERO, zip, zilch, nada for anything other than tires.

I got 14,200 on a trade, with 98K and a dent in the rocker. I bought it for 16k two years before.

I'd buy the 06 with 43k miles in a heartbeat. I have a 05 Sequoia with 250,000 and it hasn't missed a beat since I bought it in Dec 04. The 4.7 engine is darn near bulletproof...

I'm not sure of the size of the back seat in the 06 DC but my 6'2", 260 lb son and his football gear routinely ride in the back of my 11 DC. He hasn't complained about it either.

FWIW, I love the 5.7 and the rest of the drivetrain in my Tundra. Obviously I haven't had it long enough to know it's durability but I bet it will prove to be reliable.

Either way you go, you'll get a damn fine truck!

I'm working on the 06 pretty hard right now. The truck is in Texas and I had a friend go by and check it out for me. I am in negotiations now and will see where it goes. I should know by Sunday if I'm buying it. You just cannot go wrong with the 4.7 liter v8 with those miles

Cannot speak to the 08. I have the 06 TRD double cab. We haul the kids ages 12/8 in it on trips with little worries. The biggest complaint I have other than MPG is the turning radius. Gets 11-15 mileage. Hauls the boat or trailers fine. Plenty of room. The newer models seem to have less glass. By that I mean I can see better out of the older ones. The other one draw back is the kids did have little space to store junk when traveling, but the wife has an SUV and it is much easier. The 08 has more storage in cab for misc stuff.

The 5.7L Toyota V8 uses a timing chain not a belt.

Both trucks are about 800 miles away from me. I have a friend taking a mechanic to check out the 06 tomorrow and should know pretty quick if its a go. If not I will focus on the 08

I know. But until he confirmed in a PM it has the 5.7, it could've had the 4.7. At $14k I would've bet money it had the 4.7.
That is an incredible price for that truck.

4.7 also has a timing chain. Depending on what you tow, it doesn't lack power either. I towed a 5000# 20' ranger boat all over the damn place just fine.
