Hell, that's nothing. One of the most damaging spies against the US was Jeff Carney, who now calls himself Jens Karney only served 12 years of a 40 years sentence. TIme was, they were hung. I helped chase Carney, but wasn't in on the final act due to a reassignment, but it was satisfying to know he'd been caught.

Still, I know how you feel. Capital punishment doesn't deter, but it sure cuts down on recidivism.

I can understand why Israel would like to see him freed. He passed our classified information to them for their benefit.

Which is exactly the reason why we should not release him. He is a spy and a traitor to our country and what he did was extremely harmful to us.

He fully deserves the punishment he got, and hopefully it will deter others from being traitors.

Releasing him would only encourage others to do what he did.

Considering how casually information flows from the U.S. to Israel, Pollard must have been involved in something *way* out of bounds to receive the sentence he did.

Much of it is very classified, but from doing a bit of reading, it appears that Israel traded some very delicate information provided by Pollard to the Soviet Union in exchange for allowing Jews to immigrate to Israel

Other officials go further, and say that there was reason to believe that secret information was exchanged for Jews working in highly sensitive positions in the Soviet Union. Any spy that gets caught tossing around nuclear defense secrets is going to get hammered. That pretty much goes without saying.

What a joke. Salvage the unsalvageable? Classic throw a fit and wait for Mommy to give in. Israel doesn't want to give anything more to the Muslims. They go hard core and are content with it. When the US comes along, they hold us up for some perk - in this case Pollard- do a short symbolic effort, and break off talks again. They gain.

I really don't see this as much of an issue. He's eligible for parole next year and there's no indication he wouldn't get it. So what's the big deal, he was going to get out next year anyhow...so we let him go a year early, to assist in peace talks. How is this an issue?

I'm sure he's been replaced at least 10 times over since he was locked up.

Certainly has. The Mossad tends to be a rather competent group. I'm sure the FSB has us penetrated as well...they always have.
