Speaking of cities & wide open places, it's interesting how the same artist painted both of these paintings:

Thanks for that sweet little vicarious tour out of the Bakken.

I am afraid I fall into the metrophobe category as well. Good on you that you can make the most of it. When I was in college, I used to invite kids home (N.E. MT) for Christmas. I would take the urban dwellers out of town, as if that were a distinction, into the countryside where it was a plane of white as far as the eye could see. Some had a look of near panic on their faces. The same look I had in NYC. ;-{>8

Your gal is a bona fide cutie. Just sayin.

Leighton - thanks for posting this 2014 photo mini-tour of NYC - should say Manhattan. As ever, that food looks fabulous and your lovely wife exudes the true joy of life - even when struggling to enjoy that big stogie - and I hope to meet her some day. After that lapse of time, I'll bet you two really enjoyed it all.

The city has changed so much since the 50s when we were college students a bit north and could get down there often - and seems not for the better - but the deli food appears not to have changed at all. Great stuff. Thanks for the reminders, and the effort. Hope to see you again someday soon.

And, Patrick, for a long time she has been one of my favorite artists - lived in NYC with photographer husband until she discovered NM. Thanks for posting.

Ahhh.....Katz's pastrami and homade pickles....nice. What did you get at Russ & Daughter...inquiring minds want to know. All good stuff here. NYC IS A GASTRONOMIC WONDERLAND!!! Love Little Italy. Next run here will find me at Peter Lugers for a MR Porterhouse and a 1/2" ct. bacon apps then to Keen for the fabulous meat, a single malt, and maybe a pipe. Little Italy will be begging me then. Breakfast as catch can, no big whoop. Maybe a slice for lunch.

Kudos to Kamo and the Lass. Clearly they have life by the balls ...and are squeezing the fun outta 'em and into life where they should be. cool

18 hours before, she was at work at Murray and W B'Way. And yes, it was. I'll definitely get in touch before my next jaunt down. Look forward to it.

DVD, JS and Paul: thank you for the kind words. I appreciate them, and it makes me glad that you lads enjoyed the pics.

Ah, another fella steps up and confesses his sinful culinary indulgences amongst the doomed and damned masses of Le Grand Pomme... wink

The half sours and potato knishes alone at Katz's are worth the trip. As to the delights I couldn't resist taking away, I'll post up a few shots before we magically make it all disappear. I must really, REALLY love that lass: the sack of goodies has been screaming out to me from the 'fridge to just have a *little* taste. Alas, I promised I'd wait until she got home. And as I can't imagine being able to replace the things I bought with King Oscar's canned stuff and get away with it, I'll just suffer on through. I know I'll not be disappointed, but I admit sniffling a bit paying for some of the items. At $240 and $56 a pound, respectively for two that I'm thinking of, it's clear that I really do enjoy certain edibles; like REALLY enjoy them... blush eek whistle

Thanks for the words and input, bud. I've not ever been, but PL's has been one of the lassie's go-to steak houses for many years. Next time, perhaps.

Consider my door opened to you at any time, sir. Be pleased to host should you make it over on that dreadfully long flight. Tokyo is bad enough, but from your island it's a true beast of a journey. Alas, I suggest prescribing a travel aid that almost allus helps: booze. Lots of it. wink

lol. With your globe trotting arse she's got a fair pile of FFMs banked, I'm sure. wink

Glad you're getting settled in, brother. Haven't set foot in Korea beyond the terminal in Seoul yet, but some day I imagine. If schedules cooperate, I'd go out of my way to grab a flight over to do some 16 oz curls and destroy some kalbi/bulgogi/chige together with the lassies. Next trip to the Far East will likely include the Philippines for a few days as well as the usual Tokyo run. Have a hankering to roam Bangkok too, but we'll see.

Kiotsukete, neh?

Ithaca? My old man played net in Lacrosse at Cornell. EE class of '59 (though technically he was class of '60, as the double E program then was 5 years). He said that he and the lads would go to a particularly reasonably priced local watering hole to eat pizza and pound martinis. They sold pitchers of them for five bucks a pop, apparently... Oh, my! wink

Well I am running 800,000 miles flown with United/Continental alone and have 400K sitting in their FF account. Loads in other accounts that will never see use. Lots of miles with little time. My apartment in Okpo on Geoje Island has two bedrooms, two baths and you are more than welcome to it. We can visit or you can run it alone when I am AWOL. grin It is a beautiful piece of Korea. When I had my place in Dubai I think others spent more time there than me. Hated the friggen place preferring my construction camp in Ras Laffan Qatar... laugh

Warning: Uber fail in progress! lol. Get a life, Scott. And just for the record, when you posted on the thread you reference, albeit as the true coward you are, using a second account, lots of us knew it was you. Pity you can't handle seeing a woman's bare back without falling to pieces and slinging insults, but guess what? Not everyone is a flavor of deeply emotionally damaged, frightened little boy in a man's body, and has fits over the sight of a woman's body without a little voice in their head screaming 'WHORE!'

Hating it for you. OK, well, not really. Your life couldn't happen to a nicer guy...

Great bull, but that would really suck if you were alone. Trying to figure out what I'd do in that situation... Maybe a BIG stick used to slowly pry it out of the mud?

Kamo,
Thanks for the pictures. I've never been into NYC (just La Guardia and then to Long Island). Definitely not my style, but I know those who love it, just as I love the mountains. Variety is the spice of life. I do enjoy the many great off the beaten path restaurants you can find in the big cities.
