It's called, "Military-Trained Snipers Share Their thoughts." It's a good read that I very much enjoyed. With the piece there is a photo of a bull elk with a cross hair plastered on his chest. Now I known this is just a depiction and not necessarily a recommended shot placement, but for the sake of conversation is POA a little high and too far back?

Hunter? Which mag is that? Figured you are not referencing petersons hunting...

Ten four, thanks. They don't sell that around here. Get the other two, but can't find successful hunter here.

Successful Hunter, like Rifle and Handloader magazines can be ordered in a digital format online. A good article, with great references to Shoemaker, Billy Sturver and Chuck Mawhinney.

Just a photo to catch your eye so you will read the article . Probabley just a Computer Generated Magazine Photo and not a actual photo in the bush

I didn't take the elk photo so don't know where it came from, but a good guess would be Yellowstone Park. Most wildlife photos in magazines are taken in parks. Dunno who placed the reticle, either.

Glad some people liked the article. Two of the three former military snipers mentioned post here on the Campfire.

I was struck by Chuck Mawhinney's choice of gear.

At a guess, I'd say he put about 3/4 of the cash value into the scope and mounts.

Otherwise, it appears to be a bone-stock factory rifle with a bedding job and, I'd guess, a little work on the trigger.

Interesting, and notice taken.

Especially liked the reference to the famous "Carlos Hancock".

Which issue? I did manage to find the most recent successful hunter magazine, but it didn't reference any of the articles mentioned in this thread. Guess it's a previous issue....

tjm10025, I was struck by the same thought about Mawhinney' s gear. The other thing that all of them emphasized was their preference for stalking in for a close shot rather than banging away at long range. I enjoyed the article.

I assume he's referring to Hancock, which should be Hathcock.
