Thanks to Doug Foglio, I added another very nice 1899 250-3000. Still shows lots of the old high luster blue. Checkering is nice and sharp. No cracks. Nice tang sight and Lyman #6. Couple small blemishes on the perch belly butt, but all in all a very beautiful rifle. I had to choose between two that were available but when I saw this one the decision was made for me. This was the better of the two and much less money. I'm STILL smiling.

Gorgeous 1899 sir. Those 250-3000 models are just great looking guns. Looking to add another one myself someday. Very good photography too.

If the pie plate gets in front of it, it will be perforated for sure. It's one of those guns that doesn't come along everyday for me so I had to strike while the iron was hot. Someone told me they wished I was a collector rather than a shooter...............I need to have a LONG chat with that fellow.

Same identical gun, minus the tang sight and with a little less condition. I have to say that the other 1899 250-3000 was also VERY nice.

One of the "Guy had 2 of them" was the "other" gun I mentioned. It just wasn't as nice as this one and the price was steeper than this one.

way to go LBK very nice , you seam to have a gun magnet for the good ones, I think its called coin and contacts grin

250s seam to be coming out of the woodwork I've bought 6 this last month and sold 4, kept an original 183xxx with checkered trigger just a little less nice than yours and a 1950 EG which
is perfect except for those side drilled holes on the top of the reciever cry condition was to nice to pass for now.

I don't know whose guns I was looking at, but I've never seen a factory perch belly 1899 250-3000 with a raised ramp front sight.

Have you? confused confused

What MIGHT be next is that some around here remember that if you haven't something decent to say, say nothing at all. There are several around here that don't need a ton of someone else's "data" to know when a rifle is right or wrong. Some already have "one of everything" and some are working on it. Don't worry, be happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! smile smile

Sounds like one of DGF's and two of Foglio's Model 250-3000 have replacement (or modified) .250 barrels. Is that not correct? They are what they are. I see nothing wrong with stating the facts.

Yep.. Fug even says one has a 24" later barrel. And we've seen some guns from the 20's with perchbellies, and we've seen some early guns that sold much later, and we've seen guns that went back for factory work. And we've seen guns with swapped parts.

I'm guessing Fug ain't buying guns with swapped parts too often, so probably they shipped late or went back for factory work.

If I were a gamblin' man my money would be on the "yes" square, seeing as though the 1899 250-3000 seems to be the topic for discussion.

Maybe we need a definition of what is considered a ramp front sight - I would not call these 'ramp'. The brochure refers to this type front sight as 'intergral'.

They must be perfectly legitimate straight from the factory guns.

Cause they wouldn't be worth very much to the owners or prospective buyers if they weren't

Would they...

Every picture and every add of a 250-3000 on this thread shows a integral front sight. Right.

Raised ramp front sights did not appear until 27/28. 7 or 8 years after the perch belly 250's went out of production.

So what does that make a perch belly 250-3000 with a raised ramp ramp front sight on the barrel?

Bogus without a letter.

Yes Sqweeler:

That is a very, very nice gun. In fact it's beautiful.

Do you have any information or insight that might add to the discussion or conversation?

I do not have a 1899 250-3000. Although I am a big fan of that particular model.

Still waiting for the right one to present itself at a reasonable price. The fact that I don't own one doesn't mean I am going to settle for one that ain't right. Patience in this game is a virtue.

Guaranteed mine will have integral front sights...

I'd even settle for a nice early G

Call me fussy.

I have several 99's in 250-3000. Not sure there is such a thing as a "bad one" and I don't really care what sights they have. I just like-em all.

I like the the 1899 250-3000 rifles quite a bit. I think it's neat that Savage designed that particular rifle to introduce that caliber. I enjoy shooting mine and I'm always looking to add a second one in nicer condition.
