My letter from JTC on my 1895 carbine arrived today. Serial # 3355 accepted at Utica Nov. 18, 1896 and shipped on Sept 30, 1898. The original consignee is Turner Hardware Co. in Muskogee, OK (reason enough to dig out my old Merle Haggard albums). The gun does letter as a carbine.

When you letter yours I'll bet you it comes back as accepted in 1896 but wasn't shipped till 1897 or even 1898, a lot of the earlier serial numbered guns in that range seemed to be stored and then shipped a year or two later. So I was pretty darn close on the other thread huh? How did that ring fit?

Muskogee wasn't incorporated till March 19, 1898 so was probably still a rugged area at that time. The last land rush was in 1889.
Thanks for posting.

Muskogee wasn't incorporated till March 19, 1898 so was probably still a rugged area at that time. The last land rush was in 1889. Incorrect. Oklahoma of today was two territories prior to statehood: Indian Territory and Oklahoma Territory. Muskogee was a trading post in the Creek Nation of Indian Territory. There was a rail line through there in 1898, federal court house, various government offices, etc. Not exactly "rugged." Last land run of Oklahoma Territory was in 1893. Indian Territory didn't play host to any of that crap. "Land runs" in Oklahoma Territory were superseded by lotteries that ran through 1901. Gun would've shipped to Muskogee, I.T., not Muskogee, Oklahoma. And Merle Haggard was NOT from Muskogee nor has he ever resided in Muskogee or anywhere within Oklahoma.
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubblegum. I do tend to fit in well wherever I go in person. The campfire is the most outside exposure I get. No TV, no newspaper.

They used Muskogee, I.T. Towns in Oklahoma Territory used O.T.; i.e., Guthrie, O.T., Perry, O.T., etc.

I have a land grant deed for 640 acres somewhere in Oklahoma. Sadly, I don't have the land with it.

Pretty cool. Great rifle with history. What do you think was between OK and MI?
