I personally like the Speer Gold Dot ammo. From both my personal experience and the tests that I have seen it fits the bill.

I have always used Federal HydraShock, 124 grain. Never had to actually USE any, but it feeds reliably, and is accurate in my 9MM CZ.

Federal HST, Speer Gold Dot or Winchester RangerT are excellent choices,

Federal HST or Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P is good stuff and is fairly easy to find around here - use in the H&K P30LS and the Glock G34. I use std velocity in the Sig 938 and Browning Hi-power.
I think I also have a box or two of Speer +P+, but would probably load them only in the Glock.

CorBon 115...depending on the barrel length it runs 1300-1350 fps with a Sierra JHP bullet.

I've been carrying Corbon DPX 115gr +P for the past year or so in my Glock 17 and 26 but also have a good supply of Speer Gold Dot 124gr +p and Federal BPLE 115gr +P+, all 3 are good to go imo

I think ammo selection was far more important with the 9mm in the 1990's, especially anything over 124 grs if you wanted consistent performance. All of the current lines such as the Ranger, HST, gold dot etc will preform to pretty much the same levels of expansion and penetration.
I prefer the 124+p flavors, I like the extra energy offered for reliable operation under all circumstance. Im now in cold weather which means gloves and bulky jackets, the extra slide velocity can help if something is brushing against it and robbing energy.
Hunt hard, kill clean, waste nothing and offer no apologies.

147gr black talon's for my wife 9mm. I figure someone tries anything with her one shot to the stomach will end their day pretty quick.
Then STFU. The rest of your statement is superflous bullshit with no real bearing on this discussion other than to massage your own ego. Suckin' on my titties like you wanted me.

What do guys carry in your gun for self defense? When I carry a 9mm, which is not very frequently, it's 124 gr Federal HST's. MM

Depending on the pistol, 147gr WW SXT, Black Hills 124gr standard velocity, and Black Hill 115gr standard or +P. It all depends on accuracy of any given load in any given pistol and whether or not it shoots to the sights.

Generally speaking, it's hard to go wrong with any of these:
Fed HST, Ranger T, Gold Dot, and Win PDX1 (which is actually just the repackaged FBI duty load). In general, I've found the PDX1 to be loaded just a tad hotter than the others. I would find which one your gun likes and stick with it.
A couple of newer options include Hornady Critical Duty and Barnes TAC-XPD, but I haven't heard much about real world results with these yet.
If you're fixin' to put a hole in something, make it a hole to remember.

Ok guys educate me, this gold dot, its factory fodder or ya have to handload it? It's Speer Gold Dot. Actually owned by ATK, who also owns Federal Premium brand.

There are 4 different factory loads that I really like in the 9mm Isle.
In no particular order:
Speer 124 grain Plus P Gold Dot
Winchester 127 grain plus P plus
Hornady 135 grain Critical Duty Plus P
Winchester HST 147 grain plus P HST
I don't think you can go wrong with any of these loads.
