Dogshooter and myself have been discussing trying to set up a mid to long range steel shoot out here in Fort Collins/Loveland. We have the steel and an excellent place to hold the shoot, and it would be really fun for us not fortunate enough to get to go out to Pat's Icebreaker shoot in Montana.
Does anybody think that sounds like a good time? We were thinking late April/early May for a time frame. Thoughts?

Because I don't shoot Tac matches I guess? Just not really set up for it.

If I were in CO I'd love to help with this.
Me and my buds are going to do something similar here in Oregon. We have some 12"x12" armor plate, plus various scrap steel.
Tentative plan is to include 100y offhand, 200y & 300y kneeling/seated/sticks, 500y prone, and 600y prone. Also thinking about a 100y mover (zip line) and longer ranges for those up for it (out to 800y or 1000y). Will score based on time and hits. It'll be pretty informal, and geared towards medium range hunting but should be a good time.
I'll be interested in hearing what you guys come up with for your course and scoring.

Tanner If you hunt, and you do :), you are. It's just "shooting" Just come to Raton. It's casual. We can have a 24hr meeting there and have fun. First Sunday of every month

rcamuglia: Did they close down the 1000yd range at Raton? I have hopes of hitting Raton this summer Never been.
Tanner, I would come up and shoot, but I booked solid into May. Just bought a brand spanking new 12" steel target. Hoping to pop the cherry on it this weekend if I can figure out where to go. Less than 500 doesn't really interest me.

Early May looks pretty good. Thinking a couple days before the Hide Cup, maybe the weekend before, that's mid-late May.... whoever, shootin' whatever. They're holding the cup about 20 miles from where we shoot... would be a good pre-funk for guys shooting in the cup.

Their site says "1000 yard range will be closed indefinitely beginning Oct. 2013"
Wasn't sure why, or if it is permanent. Sure sounds like it.

Wind went from a nice 3 mph to 10+ in about 5 minutes today, and was anywhere from 11:00 to 9:00..... educational to say the least.... especially at 900-1200. I bet you see that at the Hide Cup too..... pretty fickle wind in the high desert.

Tanner, Let me know when you guys decide to do this. I'd like to join you guys if my schedule allows and I can find a rifle. Maybe I can borrow something that would shoot decent?

Where do y'all shoot? My brother lives in Estes and says the range he uses in Big Thompson is still closed cuz of flood damage, he needs somewhere he and his kids can shoot besides the neighbors place.

Straight east of Wellington about 15-20 miles. It'd be about an hour and a half from Estes.... but you can spend all day out there running around.
If you want some info for him shoot me a PM.... I can send some map pics.
