I currently have a SS M7 260. It shoots 120gr handloads @ 2900.
I found a Tikka SS 6.5x55 that I think the guy will swap. Will I gain anything by swapping calibers? I'm thinking the longer barrel will allow for higher velocities. I don't see myself loading anything heavier than 120, possibly 130s, but I have several rifles for shooting 150 - 250gr bullets.
I had a Tikka 270 for about a year, but sold it for a 7mm RM.

MHW -
It boils down to 'personal' preference -- yours.
If you like and are satisfied with the M 7 ??
Me, I prefer the Tikka just for the difference in balance and feel. The 6.5X55 in the Tikka will allow for longer seating of bullets (more power capacity).
You SHOULD get more vel from the 22 7/16" than the 18" or so. The Tikkas are well known for accuracy and great triggers so......
Only you can decide which you like best.

If you want to shoot 120-130's then the Model 7 will be just fine. If you are happy with it then there is no need to change.

My Tikka T3 has a long throat. Therefore, I cannot seat most bullets to the lands. Not a big deal, but I think it cuts back on velocity too.
I am at 2950 with 123 Scenars. That being said, it is the most accurate rifle I have ever owned. Better snatch that one up, you cannot get stainless Swedes anymore in the USA.

MHWASH - so, what did we do? Trade for the Tikka or keep the M7? Reason is I have a SS T3 in 6.5 Swede and like shooting it alongside my .243W/Marlin XS7 and 7MM08/ Savage M16 WW.
Sure there are similarities between them but they all have their own +/-'s. Plus you don't see many Swedes around especially SS T3's. Unfortunately, same goes for the .260Rem. Homesteader

I would just put a 22" barrel on the 7 and call it a day

firstcoueswas80 - sure that's always an option but there had to be a reason why he thought about a swap. Homesteader.

I have a Tikka T3 in 6.5 Swede. Mine shoots bugholes with every bullet I have pushed downrange from 107 grain match through Sierra 120 gr and 140 gr as well as 120 TSX and 130 TSX. If the 260 shoots good, why worry about a 6.5 Swede?
Having said that, I wouldn't trade my Tikka for a Remington.

My M7 260 did not impress, so I had a 7BR made out of it, w/heavier bbl.
No flies on Tikka, or 6.5x55 for that matter. A T3 in 270 surely would not disappoint....

Throw that Model 7 into a light weight stock and it becomes a whole different rifle.
I recently dropped my M7 into a Brown M7 stock and it's probably one of my favorite new old rifles.
Kicker is McMillian Edges and Brown Stocks are pretty damn rare, but do come up from time to time. Or on a budget take a look at Wildcat composite stocks and finish it yourself. Have heard good things about them.
