A friend's son has one, #7729xx. According to what I can find, manufactured in 1915. Haven't held it in my hands yet to get the nitty-gritty (condition, rifle vs. carbine, etc.) but various sources put the value anywhere from $400-$1500. Any ideas?

Until you come up with the "nitty-gritty" there's no way to value it. Can be anywhere from $250 for a beat to hell junker to $30,000+ for a mint special order deluxe.

You are asking the impossible. Have it appraised by a knowledgeable collector or professional.

Thanks. I figured it would be a problem. I'll be able to lay hands on it this weekend to get specifics.

Two things aren't original: 1) The sling swivels and 2) the tang sight....that rifle was not factory D&T'd on the tang...
Looks to be in "average", hunted condition for its vintage...with the current 94 craze out there it might bring over $600....it's a $450 gun, IMO....even with the $100 sight....

I think your carbine was drilled for the tang sight. They quit drilling for the tang sight when they started drilling the receiver for the receiver peep sight.

This carbine I would assume has a flat band where the barrel and tube are joined together at the front sight. It might be worth a little more with that sight say $750.

Not quite true....Upper tangs were no longer drilled shortly after 1,100,000 and the two holes on the side of the receiver started shortly before 2,000,000
