Looking from some advice.
My boys (10 and 14) and I are wanting to put together a fishing trip for next year. We're thinking that a driving trip to either North Idaho or Western Montana would be fun. Our preference is to dry camp with a tent (don't care much for campgrounds) and we'll be taking canoe/kayaks. We'll only have a week or so which I know will limit us but we're hoping to be able to hit at least three or four lakes/rivers.
As I said, looking for advice on a good route to take. Haven't settled on the time of year but I'm thinking late spring, early summer. Early fall would be a close second choice. We know very little about those areas and less about the fisheries. Any advice is welcome.

I'd be inclined to lean toward early fall. Late spring and early summer can be challenging with blown out streams. Less of an issue with lakes and headwaters, but I do better in the 7,000 ft elevation realm during the fall than in early summer.
Specific sites are too numerous to mention. Good luck,

Good point with the run off. A good winter would prolong things a bit.
