Mad Trapper of Rat River, Dick North

Just finished We Pointed Them North, Teddy Blue Abbott/Helena Smith
Smith does an excellent job of telling Abbott's story for him.

Good choice, very enjoyable. Just be sure you slip in The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber...kinda goes well with Green Hills.

Thanks for the recommendation, will try to find it.
It's a BRILLIANT short story, you can probably find it online for free. Once you read it, you'll never forget it.

RJM could probably give you some pretty good advice on that. grin

I am not into a book right now but I hope the USPS delivers today the book of the history or ax manufacturing in America.

I'm at the beginning.

I can tell that I like Greenwald's writing style already. He's obviously a very bright guy and makes his points in a very clear manner.

I think it may be one of the most significant books to be written about the mess that America's government has become.

I've been watching his recent interviews, and it's difficult not to have a lot of respect for the man.

He's really stuck his neck out about the Snowden stuff and he's not backing down.

I have no doubt that he intends to benefit himself from the story, but he chose to take a path that very few journalists have the nerve for, and he's sticking with it.

That was a great book. I'm reading Sniper's Honor by Stephen Hunter. It may be his best yet.

In Command of History: Churchill Fighting and Writing the Second World War.

It skims the details of his 6 volume set and then goes into how he hustled his own govt documents and edited them for the betterment of the story. A good read. A bit dry. But it abides by the old saying: The Victors Get to Write The History Books.

Yes, to answer your question I am a nerd. Teaching history will do that!

Yeah he's a good writer, I've read several of his articles. He does have that writers gift for grabbing the reader and not letting go. So given his writing style and the topic, I'm sure it's going to be a great read, as well as a very important one.

Love to hear your thoughts when you get through though; send me a quick PM.

I have to finish the book I'm on, and then the one in the batter's box. But soon as I do, I'll be buying a copy for myself.

I've read all of Hunter's other books. I actually like Earl Swagger better than Bob, but Bob is a great character, so I'll be reading that one sometime this year.

Glad to hear it's a good one...when you come to like a character you always get worried that the next book wont be as good as the last. I don't think any of his books have been better than Point of Impact, but they're damn good and he keeps me coming back for more. Hunter's one of the best.

I'm trying to find a slot to start Covered Waters and The Snowfly, both fishing stories by Joseph Heywood - and also both gifted to me by Pugs during our recent visit to his place. I'm positive I'll love them.
