I am looking to make an out of state flyfishing trip to Maine for trout and landlocked salmon. I will be driving there from the PA/NJ area.

Can anyone offer me any suggestions on location, cabin rental, and maybe an good outfitter. I am not sure if I will be doing this alone or with an outfit but welcome all recommendations from anyone who has flyfished Maine.

Thanks a bunch!

I used to go up and fly fish land locked salmon, stripers, bass, brookies In Maine for years but last time was 8 years ago and fishing may have changed.

Let me email a buddy who lives there and get back to you.

I would check out sight fishing wading for stripers in salt too. Go first or second week of June.

This guy was a friend and well worth going out with him on the salt with a fly rod for stripers and blues.

Give me a few days.

For Landlocked Salmon I like the West Branch Penobscot River between Ripogenus Dam and Nesowadnehunk Deadwater. Almost all of the big lakes have Landlocks and if you like to explore, check out streams flowing into and out of the larger lakes anywhere north of Bangor.

Roach River in Kokajdo, ME is a good place to start. The river flows into Moosehead Lake and has all that you are looking for. You can stay at Northern Pride Lodge or South Inlet campgrounds on Roach pond. I stay at South Inlet during bear camp.

Grand Lake Stream is pretty great man...there are cabins right on the stream...plenty of Salmon to catch too...a world class stream for sure.

Check out Canal Side Cabins or Weatherby's, which happens to be one of the oldest sporting camps in the state, and Orvis Endorsed. That town is filled with old traditions and beauty....the featherwing streamer was created there..I love it that town...hoping to make it over there in a few weeks.

A few years ago my wife and I spent a very enjoyable week here http://www.lakewoodcamps.com

Lots of landlocks and when there was a good hatch (mostly caddis) lots of big brookies. We only fished the river down to the middle pool.

It was a very classic Maine sporting camp experience I wouldn't hesitate to repeat.

That sure brings back memories.

Over forty years ago, I spent a couple of summers camping on the north side of Sunday Cove, opposite #16, at a tent camp my family shared. I fished the Rapid River from end to end and caught a nice mix of landlocked salmon and brookies. The teenage boys camped at Cedar Stump, #15, a couple of times each summer. We also kayaked from PITR to Cedar Stump and had a lot of fun "body surfing" the rapids at Smooth Ledge #12.

For several years, circa 1969 thru 1976, my hunting uncle's deer hunting crew camped at Sunday Pond and hunted the area between the Sunday Pond Trail, #17, and the Rapid River. The area had a long history of deer hunting, as I recall picking up spent cases from a variety of uncommon, even then, cartridges like the 25-36, 25 Rem, 30 Rem, 32 Rem, 32-40, 33 Win, 351 WSL, 38-40, 38-55, 401 WSL, 40-82, and 45-90.

Well thanks to the great info posted here I have my trip booked the 3rd week of June to the Grand Lake Stream area in Maine.

I was hoping to get some recommendations on fly patterns and size etc. and streamers. Also any other advice would be much appreciated as well.

Again, I just wanted to give a big thank you to everyone who posted to point me in the right direction.
