I'm making deviled eggs for a mini-family reunion next Sunday.

Came up with a recipe which I call wasabi-ginger.

For 1 doz eggs mix the following together:

1/4 cup of wasabi mayo, salt, pepper, 1/2 tsp of sesame oil, 1 tsp light soy sauce, 1 tsp rice vinegar, 1/4 tsp granulated garlic, 1 tsp sugar, 1/2 a small scallion, minced.

I garnish these with small shavings of pickled ginger, which I will make today. Toasted sesame seeds would be great on them, too. Also, the pickling liquid in the jar of ginger makes a great addition to the mixture, since it is sweet and very gingery, like a ginger simple syrup. If I do this, I leave out the sugar.

Also, I use scant amounts of the liquid ingredients, since I prefer the mixture more dry than creamy, then add more depending on how they turn out. If I was running them through an icing extruder I'd go on the creamy side, but with a couple dozen I won't bother.

With the wasabi mayo and the ginger, this comes out very mild, just slightly spicy. For more heat, one could easily add more of the wasabi mayo, or some wasabi powder (but be careful...!).

I'm making another flavor, too, with minced cornichons, but that will be a more conventional flavor.

(I'm also going to develop some cocktails using the ginger simple syrup...it is delicious.)

I like my deviled eggs a little simpler. Hard boiled eggs, mayo, relish, fine diced onion, salt, pepper, and Paprika on top.

Sterilize a pint jar.

Dissolve 1/2 cup each of sugar, rice vinegar and water in a small sauce pan, add 1 tsp kosher salt. Bring to a boil.

Scrape/peel the skin off of a large piece of fresh ginger, then use a mandolin or very sharp knife to slice very thin. Should have about a cup.

Place the ginger in the jar and pour the mixture over it. Cover tightly, let sit for a while to cool, then place in the fridge.

Can be used the next day, will last in the fridge about 2 weeks.

I've never seen it colored reddish, can't help there. I will say when I get sushi, the stuff they give out is nearly identical to the recipe.

The pickled ginger i've seen is usually a light pink color, I don't care for it but my wife loves the stuff.

My deviled eggs are made with a simple recipe: mayo, a tiny bit of mustard, salt, pepper, and a splash of olive juice mixed into the yolk mixture. Top with a sliced olive and a dash of paprika.

That's ok, I'll ass shoot a dink.

Agreed I keep both Dukes and Hellmans on hand, but for deviled eggs, tuna salad, ham salad, it's Dukes.

I forget where we came across the recipe, but it included diced sauted mushrooms to the yolks, mayo and mustard. Different flavor than traditional deviled eggs, but quite tasty.

just saw this on the internet...

Quote
In restaurants, sushi chefs stock either natural pickled ginger or ginger dyed pink artificially or with beet juice, oftentimes depending on the color of servingware used. But plenty of places don't even give it that much thought whatever color your ginger is, it's more or less the same thing.

If you are willing to settle for the bland and flavorless fat and raw eggs and vinegar that is mayo. As you expand your horizons and dare your palate and diverge from the ho-hum you will graduate to the addition of mustard flour, paprika, spices, and dried garlic in MW. Its not for everyone. Im not prone to settling for flavorless mayo glop. Not with all the vastly superior alternatives. grin

Do your deviled eggs a favor and upgrade to MW. You can thank me later. (and you will. You will be pissed that you have to but you will thank me just the same.)

Your welcome. wink

OTOH, you seem to enjoy cramming your throat with loads of devil's smegma goblin's cum nastiness.

You are "a dick ted". You have an "a dick shun" to creamy nastiness.

Im not accustomed so witnessing somebody working so hard and yet falling so short and so often. You disappoint. Please tell me you are saving your A game for some great reveal to happen later on?? Your desire to focus on man jam is odd but I dont judge. Its a lifestyle choice you clearly made. I dont play for that team. Being a straight man means I dont see things that your type does. (not that theres anything wrong with how you are. Its a choice)

Lots but I fear you lack the capacity to take it in and apply it. I guess if I could offer any advice it would be to give up the gay. Try straight live for a change and quit the obsession with man jam. grin

I'm going to buy a jar of Miracle Whip and see if that satisfies my supposed urges. The devil's smegma goblin's cum nastiness apparently works for you to ward off the gay so why not?

Tonight Im having bologna on wonder bread with Kraft singles and MW. I might throw caution to the wind and throw an iceberg leaf on it as well. I'll wash it down with Grape Kool-aid. grin

Ground raw onion, horseradish, a lil mustard, good MAYO and a can of tuna in deviled eggs for me. A little smoked bluefish on the side and a few cold ones to wash it all down. All reminiscent of an old friend gone for some years now.

Mayo, finely diced crispy bacon, finely diced green onion, black pepper, a little salt to taste, a touch of yellow mustard and a dash of curry powder (just enough so they say.."What is that hint of something?") and call it good. Everyone raves about them, even those who can't stand curry. Don't overdo the curry - just enough to barely taste it.

That looks really decent, too...

I hoped that once the juveniles were back in detention, would get some more concepts going...

So my sig line is true as manifested in your continued tantrums? grin

In the arena of ideas, your quiver has been long empty (you have been weighed and measured and found wanting) so you hope to distract from your obvious inability by changing the subject to heater body suits to mask your shortcomings???

Im starting to feel bad for you. But since you hope to change the subject since you are failing miserably in the deviled egg arena, I will indulge you since discussing the benefits of a heater body suite is something I enjoy.

That freaking suit rocks and was a real challenge to manufacture. Spend some time on the thread to appreciate the features. As a cold weather hunter you might be able to appreciate it. Im actually looking forward to cold weather hunting again knowing I have taken it upon myself to manufacture my own solution. That this upsets you strikes me as odd and smacks of a jealous nature cloaked in insecurity. Im sure you must be good at something (even if its clearly not internet debate) There must be something you can do. grin

With apologies to the OP and his Deviled egg topic (I was not the one that made it about heater body suits) The parts that go into crafting and fitting that hood were one of the biggest challenges. (since it seems some here want to talk about heater body suits)

The hood has to be independent of the suit allowing the user to turn his head without having to turn his shoulders and yet not loose heat at the neck seam.

Try getting off your lard azz long enough to do some actual hunting, you know, spot and stalk style, then you wouldn't need that monstrosity of a suit to keep you warm. How far you think you could walk in that thing? laugh

I can't spend more than 10 seconds in that thread without busting out with laughter, that suit is one of the goofiest things I've ever seen on the internet, but I'm sure you can top it. You go girl! grin

Thanks for that smile

It led me to this: http://ronkulas.proboards.com/thread/242/diy-warm-suit-hunting

Going through this blog has told me more about DIYguy than I needed to know. He is a friendless young boy, in a man's body. He is his only friend. The only way he can get attention is to be the bully, the class clown, the one everyone loves to hate. He is more to be pitied than laughed at.

God bless his family, I truly believe they need it.

The level of rage increases, excellent.

Most folks here are not so easily manipulated as you akmtnhntr(so thanks for that). Its good to have a rube such as you at the ready that can be made to melt down when you fail at debate. There are other threads containing things I have manufactured that I could PM you to make it easier for you to change the subject the next time I completely disarm you (and we both know that is going to happen with great regularity). Just say the word. Remember, we are in this together. grin

Dance puppet, dance. grin

You may not be able to enjoy tree stand whitetail hunting in the Midwest. Long sits to ambush a deer you have singled out and waiting him out. Or ice fishing or other low movement, cold weather activities. Small parcel size and lots of trees makes spot and stalk impractical and spot and stalk ice fishing never pans out. grin

It really emphasizes the sit down comfy aspect of a sleeping bag suit used for sedentary hunting.

Way to roll Ron!

I prefer to move while i'm hunting, sitting on my azz waiting on game to come to me doesn't suit me. And wearing camo is imperative when sneaking up on unsuspecting fish hinding under the ice, glad to see you've got that figured out. lol

Hey, i've got an idea, why don't you make a pair of clownshoes to go with the Gumby suit, since you were them so well and all.

Thanks fish head, Sitting in an elevated climbing stand while deer hunting is a Midwestern whitetail hunters bread and butter. The same with sitting on a bucket while jigging for fish on the ice. Sitting while calling yotes or hunting wolves also means no motion for long periods in cold weather.

The wife loves her tea cups. I think that one came from her late Aunt Doris who died a year or two ago. Aunt Doris was like a second Mother to my wife while she was growing up so she tends to display those keepsakes to remember. The table and lamp were included with some other things she bequeathed my wife. I usually dont offer up input in how she decorates the DIY compound (especially the formal sitting room which does not get its name from this photo shoot) grin

Ah, another jerk of the string. LOL You would need to understand small parcel Midwestern dairy country whitetail Bowhunting then to appreciate treestand hunting. Let me know if you want some pointers.

The camo is for Bow deer and predator hunting, not the fishing but I cant believe you could not figure that out. Wait! what am I saying? Its obvious you dont have the capacity to figure that out. There is a white outer shell for snow and an orange for gun deer hunting and just plain old camo while fishing since the fish dont care. Let me know if you need more of an explaination.

LOL at were but now that you mention it, they would offer room for additional insulation in cold temps. Good thinking. grin

Again apologies to the OP for these folks taking this away from deviled eggs.

The nice thing about Ron's Gumby suit is it's machine washable.

Or ...

Wear it in the shower and it becomes a head to toe douche bag.

LOL at poacher. Never in my entire life have I ever been accused of or cited for or poached anything. I did get a citation back in 2012 for feeding deer out of season if that is the stretch you are hoping to make. (see my sig line) You expose your shortcoming yet again. grin

I'll let the Campfire membership make up their own minds, in the meantime, myself and several others already know the truth. That you are a lying pos and a poacher.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it DIYgal.

LOL. Feeding deer out of season in 2012 does not a poacher make in WI statute. It a simple citation. Poaching on the other hand means loss of gear and game and even lic but you can invent anything you want. grin

OK, Im off to do the graduation party thing upstate. I look forward to all manner of inventions and proof of my sig line when I get back. Please dont disappoint.

Well, according to your posts in this link (post #10, 24, 27 by Rancid Crabtree, ie, you), anyone caught hunting over a bait pile is a poacher, unless of course you get caught (which you did). lol

After you commented, I went to a few sushi sites and discovered more info re: wasabi. It is a unique and somewhat rare. If you see small quantities of it for sale for large sums, it is the real thing.

However, in the States the product, in all of its forms and preparations, is modest in price and made with horseradish and then lightly dyed green. That must be why it tastes like...horseradish. I would like to try the real thing sometime.
