We blew 2 of those motors up at a hatchery I worked at. I know of a guide up here that had some of the earlier 40hp etec's on some of his skiffs and they had nothing but problems with them. Personally I wouldn't want one myself. I would with a honda or a yamaha.

On the other hand...............

My dad has an E-Tec 50 on his wally boat. It's somewhere right in around a 2007.

It is the CHIT !!!

Quiet, VERY good fuel economy, trolls right down and will run the nads off any Hondoo or Yinga-haha of the same hp.

Just my $.02

Naturally, YMMV.

Google e tek, you will se more bad reviews than all other motors combined. I was looking at a 30 tiller but was detoured by all the negative info. I even talked to two local outboard mechanics. One said run from a e tek the other said POS.

Dunno.

Pap's only been running his E-Tec 50 for about 7 years. So maybe that's not enough time to find out why it sucks so bad.

I only know two things.......... all it's had put into it in those 7 years are gas & oil and it takes at least a 60 in ANY other brand of OB to run with it on a comparable boat.

It is a BALLSY little OB with a very small appetite for fuel.

I had a 25 hp on a small boat, ran it about 18 months without the first sign of trouble.

I just topped the oil tank off and filled her with gas. Only other thing was annual lower unit maintenance.
