The IRS claims "selective server crash" and says that all of Lois Lerner's emails between her and Congress and her and the White House were lost in a computer crash. Luckily, though, NONE of her other emails were lost - JUST the ones to Congress and the White House. Too bad the federal government doesn't back anything up....

Except, I'm shocked they actually are going to pull this ploy. I won't be shocked that they'll get away with it though. All of their focus groups say no one cares, the media isn't going to howl and cry, so go big and call it a day.

As a high tech guy, it takes a lot more than a computer crash to get rid of emails. Someone spent a whole bunch of time committing a felony getting those emails deleted. Unless they also raided the tape vault, they still exist in some form.

$5 says someone in the IRS made copies before the order to "lose" them came down. Let's hope for a whistle blower.

You can erase a hard drive and the data is still there. The IRS director needs to be charged with contempt of Congress, as well as anybody that testifies that they can't be retrieved. It's pure corruption.

Those emails exist on at least two email systems, and months or years of the email database backup. It's not on a single hard drive or a single storage system. It's a lie anyone technical could easily tear apart.

As a professional IT guy...

Can't see it being possible that they lost all the backups for 3 years from a gov't agency email account. And there's no copies available from the White House email backups.

Just. Ain't. Possible.

Now, who's gonna run that data down??

They need a special prosecutor to pursue that, putting the culprits on notice that destroying evidence is a felony and those caught WILL spend time in the big house.

But, it's the Justice Dept that sets up special prosecutors. Hahaha...

By Federal law, all correspondence into the White House, Treasury and Justice Departments must kept on file. They have redundancy systems in place to capture all documents from any source, so they have the e-mails. Someone just needs to demand they be produced or go to jail.
