Has anyone hunted unit 120 for Elk? My friend and I have put in for that area after talking to the biologist responsible for that area. She told me the elk numbers are way up in that unit almost too high she said. The reason being is the weather last season made it a difficult hunt and the harvest numbers were way down.

Although the hunting booklet says that unit has little public land she said that was nonsense as where most of the elk are is in public land.

I'm just curious if anyone has any info or past experience to share on this unit.

That was the stock CO DOW answer back in the 90s and 2000s. Lots of guys came out here with stars in their eyes.

I'd get a second opinion.

They probably are on public land until the first few shots are fired. Then where do they go and can you get access after they move? That is a major problem these days, nearly everywhere. Elk understand hunting season, and go to areas with a lot less or no hunting pressure within a few days of the season opening.

I know several people that hunt 120 for elk. They always are very successful, but also hunt private land. I've seen some huge bulls come out of there...

We are focusing on NW area. Can't wait to get up there. Scouting in august. Anyone else hunt this area?
