Hunting and rendezvous season has slowed down and I have been in full blown fishing mode lately. No fish is safe! Even the crappie are taking a beating.

Those would be Godzilla crappie here. We have black crappie, and those look like whites, but a big one here runs 13".

Two weeks ago was the peak of our crappie spawn at lower altitude lakes (and is peaking right now at higher ones) and the last time I was out I managed to catch a limit of 10 crappie in 12 minutes, on six casts of a two-jig rig. The statewide limit here is 50 crappie, except on a few lakes like that one, btw.

They're some of my favorite eating fish.

Five words, Tony Chacheres fish fry seaqsoning! Try it, its great. I mix it half and half with white corn meal, no need for salt or pepper. I'm hungry.
