Leave the brake off. Your professional hunter in Africa will appreciate that.

I have a 338 Lapua with a 30" Rock Creek barrel and the noise is not bad with that length of tube with a brake on it. Shorten the barrel to 24 or 26" and the noise is quite impressive.

Listen to RinB. Ditch the brake for the hunt.

Nice rifle, but agree on the break. If your PH or gun bearer holds the sticks for you they will need the ear protection for sure.

I have seen where the shooting stick holder developed a flinch just from a standard length non ported magnum. Not conducive to precise shooting and not very fair to the bystanders.

For everyone. The exit pressure is much lower, thus the noise is also lower.

They need ear protection brake or no brake.

Tell that to your PH.

There's a reason a whole bunch of guides and PHs hate muzzle brakes. It's not just the noise, but the blast itself. The gd things are just terrible. If a guy needs one for a hunting rifle, he needs to be shooting a lighter recoiling package.

Praire_goat, it is his hunt and he can shoot what ever he wants to use, since he is the lying customer. It is Also a fact that a longer barrel means a lower exit pressure and lower muzzle blast ie noise.

I built the rifle for a guy that is going on his second trip there. He is going to a friends ranch. He used a 300 ultra last year with the same brake. He killed 6 critters. They are going to be doing a little longer range this year so he wants a bit more power. Since I'm not the one that has any say, I'll let them decide on the brake thing.

The red cover on the turret came withe scope.

Plugs don't solve the blast/concussive shock wave that is really hard on those standing to the side. Also, it might be a little awkward to drag around a rifle with a 30" barrel plus the brake. Looks like it might go over 10 lbs as well.

Lastly, I thought the higher the muzzle pressure made a brake more effective.
