One local tavern here has pure clean ice for the bourbon. One cube per rock glass. 2"x2"x2" perfectly clear ice. Works well and melts very slow. Cools the wiskey down but does not dilute much. And that's exactly backwards. If the spirit is a bit "hot" for the palate, it should be diluted slightly with still spring water that is not chilled. Cooling the whiskey inhibits evaporation that would provide the "nose", and it also anesthetizes the taste buds. I don't think they are sniffing it mathman it only matters with good whiskey anyway

An American calling an Aussie a Limey Or even worse,,, calling a guy from Idaho a Tenneseean. To be real fair though.... There's some from TN that got flushed down the drain and didn't deserve it.

True, there are "levels" of whisk(e)y.
I've got nothing against a basic Bourbon/Rye and branch on the rocks, but do that with an 18 yr. old Sazerac rye and you've committed a crime.

I love to put ice in whisky, or maybe even a little coke. The only reason I do it is to watch the whisky snobs start foaming at the mouth. Pretty funny.

whoa! now that's getting harsh. Harsh indeed. She's got a mean streak in her. I have family in Texas but I don't really consider Texas part of the south.

Sometimes snobs are drinking along side of me. Just did a "scouting mission" of the Bourbon Trail last weekend. Wife and I are planning a 3 week stent to do it right. Probably will meet a lot of snobs with "$h!t for taste buds" kind of people.

I get mean when I drink whiskey and then I want to beat up on red heads. Can you hear me now? I get hungry and like to cook stuff too. Got any recipes?

I used to put an ice cube or two in my whisky but after taking mathman's advice and trying a splash of room temp spring water for a while I've come to prefer it that way.
As far as Beam goes,,,, I'm not crazy about the white label but I kinda like their 8yo Black Label. There's better for the same price though so I only buy it when it's on sale.

Any idiot rat bastid that puts beans in chili! Chili to me has! beans in it; always has. Is this a regional thing? Yeah Georgelots of Americans put beans in chili, but as it originated it had no beans, and to this day many chili cookoffs will run you out of town on a rail if you put a bean in it.. Its a Campfire thing too..we shun, ostracize, criticize, taunt, and make sport of those who insist on putting beans in their chili. However, on a related topic, ice in whiskey is OK... Originally chilly was invented on cattle drives where there was no refrigeration. The meat would start to turn before you could eat a whole cow so the cooks threw in some chilies to mask the flavor of tainted meat. Beans were added later when there was not enough meat on a lean table. So if you are going to be a purest with your chili you have to let the meat spoil befor you make it. I would rather have beans.

A whiskey snob wouldn't care how you defiled Jim beam. And he hits one out of the park, a deep, deep drive to center field!
I am..........disturbed.
