I disagree. If people wouldn't buy Chinese products and only bought USA product (which would cost more) the stores would stop stocking Chinese product. They sell what the people want.

You're talking to a guy that just spent all day looking for American made boots to buy and ended up buying Chinese hikers at 6pm because the kids needed dinner.

If its Walmart bashing, then its pretty tough to give a damn about a company (the largest public corporation in the world) who tell their people to go on the public dole to for their health benefits. Let's give a big HuRah for the Waltons, who occupy about three slots on the most richest people list!

Interesting. You rank right up there with the teacher's unions which hate Walmart but can't seem to teach our children much other than to feel good about themselves. We're becoming a third world nation as far as education goes and you're complaining that somebody is making a buck. Something is wrong when substandard education is ok but capitalism is wrong. People buy what they want. The Edsel proved that.

There aren't many part time employees anywhere that get health insurance without paying a large % of it. If they included health care for their part timers their prices would go up which would mean people would start shopping elsewhere.

My friend's wife has worked at WM for 20 years. The insurance they offer is very good and reasonably priced according to him. They chose WM insurance over the insurance the Teamsters offered him.

Please don't put words in my mouth and then change the argument. They are a big company that could do better for their employees. I never thought supporting the American worker would ever be unpopular.

PS - we are also becoming a third world country as far as employment is concerned and I don't envy younger generations.

Maybe we ought to stick on track and avoid the subject of politics as we all have our own opinions and thankfully the right to have them.

It's a foreign concept with the corporations that look ONLY at the bottom dollar. Pun intended.

I'm surprised how many have drunk the koolaid and are content with the mantra "Corporations sell what Americans want". No, they sell what makes them the highest profit margin. They don't care what real Americans want, they care about their stocks and trust funds.

I'm not against capitalism, I'm against capitalism w/o morality or patriotism. I can't stand what corporations are doing to our economy, all in the name of profits for at few at the top, America be damned. If you see it otherwise, you need to open your eyes to the reality of where America's jobs went and why.

Might want to take a look at the charges on your 30 year mortgage too while you're at it. The bankers have turned your little $115,000 cottage into a $300,000 dream house.

I've bought Red Wings for almost 20 years. They have cheap import boots and higher up the ladder there are American made ones I believe. I buy the better ones because I want something that might last a year and I wear a 14 A or B width. Usually the eyelets wear through until the laces start getting cut and then it's new eyelets and sometimes new out soles when they wear through. When I was landscaper I usually got a summer out of the outsoles on their high end boot. I did a search on the Red Wing website and they have dealers in Oregon, however I don't know how close they are to you.

I wonder how many Union trust funds and other investment portfolios contain Walmart Stock? As for as I can see NO ONE yet is forcing anyone to buy or not to buy from Walmart...that may be coming as we continue to spiral out of control as a capitalistic Republic. Does the number "666" sound familiar?

Greed plays a part too. I bet the Waltons could spring for cross the board health care for their employees out of their own pockets, and still have a billion or two left over for their fun and games- and it's not just them. Add to that the lemming-like traits of the poorly educated/apathetic buying public and you have a recipe for economic disaster. Don't even get me started on the fact that we no longer are a manufacturing based economy (where wealth is based upon adding value to raw materials) but rather a service/consumer based economy hell-bent on creating wealth out of thin air. I fear (but sincerely hope not) that it's a flimsy house of cards we live in. I'm old enough that I probably won't be around to witness the fall of the Empire, but I'm saddened to know that the kids in my family will have to deal with it.

There's a reason why previous generations were taught ancient history- so as to take heed from the mistakes of the past. Basic human nature hasn't really changed much in 2000 years. Grab any kid on the street today and ask him about the Roman Bread-and-Circuses and he'll look at you like you have two heads. It doesn't take a genius to see that the same forces that destroyed the mightiest empire in the ancient world are wrecking ours today- apathy, complacency, and morally corrupt government, yet the issue isn't addressed in the public school system to any meaningful degree.

I wonder where WM employees would be working if WM wasn't here. Relatively unskilled people. My guess is many of them would be working for other department stores or other small businesses, for the most part none of them offer health care either.

Walmart offers health care guys. My son was a cashier there and had to make a choice whether to take it or stay on ours. It may not be GREAT health care, but they offer it to full time employees.

You can't teach those that don't want to learn.

Learning is way much more than a simple consensus of thought. This is a great country gentlemen, but I really don't think Walmart represents what makes us shine the brightest. I obviously don't agree with everything that's been said in this thread, but I do appreciate the spirit it took for all to speak their minds and our constitutional right to do so. And that is one of the things that does make us great. The next time I will be sure to stick to the subject of Savage and Savage only.

While I have to admit that I stray from topic from time to time I find your intention admirable. Do your best to keep from straying and I'll do mine. Aside, we don't have to agree but we can agree to disagree.
