Not quite a relevant answer but here goes -
The only 52 I own has the Schnabel style stock on it and is chambered in 7x57. As with my other Coopers it was a no-drama rifle, I put a scope on it, picked an accuracy load from one of the reloading manuals and started shooting half-inch groups.
If there is one thing I don't like is that it is heavier than I prefer, scoped up it weighs right at 8 3/4 lbs. I am sure that some of it is the wood that is on, it is fairly well figured and dense so it adds a little additional weight. I have gotten used to model 21's and model 54's and the 52 doesn't feel as lively. My model 54 in 22/250 with a model 52 contour barrel weighs 7 1/2 lbs and feels just right.
Probably not what you are interested in but a model 54 in 6.5 Creedmore would do most of what a 6.5/284 does with less powder. I had an opportunity to shoot one a couple of weeks ago and I was impressed.

223 Rem, my favorite cartridge - you can't argue with truckloads of dead PD's and gophers.

Another not quite relevant answer. I have a Cooper Jackson GameIn .260. It is a great rifle. In my limited experience I would say by the Cooper and be happy. Drover makes a good point about weight.
Thanks GRF

I've owned three or four Cooper Excaliber rifles. Accurate with good triggers. The magazines tend to be noisy and the guns are heavy. Overall, I was happy with them, and other model Coopers I have owned. I would certainly consider buying one again.

The long action of the 52 will allow you to seat the bullets out in the 6.5/284 and you will get more velocity with heavy bullets. I have 2 mod. 52 in 06 and 270 and both shoot better than I do. They are a little heavy but Made in Montana USA. Very good shooting rifles.

I have an Excalibur in .280AI. It's the best shooting out of the box rifle I've ever had. I think the weight helps steady the gun. I've had a few lightweight rifles. None of them shot like the Excalibur.

I rue the day I traded off my Cooper Jackson Hunter. I won't be happy until I get another Cooper.

Cooper makes a fine rifle and the Excalibur is by far my favorite. It's pretty easy to get a 54 Excalbur with Talley's and a FXII 6x36 at 7lbs all up. The all stainless version is uber nice too. I don't know the exact weight specs on the 52 as I've never owned one.
To the OP -- the LGS has an Excalibur in 6.5x284 on the shelf. It has the stainless barrel. Let me know if you'd like for me to put you in touch...
I enjoy handguns and I really like shotguns,...but I love rifles!

I had one for a while but realized I was never gonna like it. It was a very bulky stock to me that did not fit me well. Pick one up before you buy to see if you like it. It had a great trigger and nice balance but the wrist thickness was too much for me.
