I have about $1K to spend, but part of that money will have to spent on a scope and arrows (bolts), so figure about $700 for the bow itself.

Keep your gun-hand ready and your eyes peeled.

I had a Barrett Wildcat, and not good experiences with it.

The accuracy was great with the cheap factory scope, but it ate the string and cable in about 50-150 shots everytime.

I expected the factory set to be so-so, but the design ate the custom sets as well.

I have had good luck with Parker, 10 point and Excalabur.

Some mornings, it just does not feel worth it to chew through the straps!~

Ten Point and Excalibur are what I see most people recommend. I have been very pleased with my Wicked Ridge Warrior. Wicked Ridge is Ten Point's entry level brand. The Warrior is their bottom crossbow and has been all I need to take 15 or so deer in the last 3 years.

I figure if it's accurate, reliable and zings arrows 300 fps the dead deer doesn't know the difference. Mine is the scoped model. Grim Reaper 100gr broadheads have been doing a fine job, they don't have to say crossbow on the package, it's the same broadhead if it says it or not. I bought my CB used but like new off of craigslist for $300 and have spent maybe $100 to $150 on arrows and broadheads. It doesn't cost $1000 in equipment to fill the freezer.

Hope this helps.

I'm looking at a Parker Thunderhawk and Wicked Ridge Warrior. Can't find anything bad said about either. Leaning toward the Parker because its so compact
