Buddy picked up a nice Ruger boat paddle in .30-06 a couple of weeks ago. He's thinking he would like to put a NECG peep on the rear and one of their banded front sights. He called both NECG and Brownells and didn't get bupkis.
I'm thinking someone, somewhere has done this and can give us a close approximation of the front sight height he needs to order. If not, does someone have a fairly easy way to figure this out? Thanks.

GeoW - what an elegant solution to this question. Used with the proper precision measurement tools this is great. BTW - how do I get my seeing eye dog to follow the template? LOL. Homesteader

I put one of the NECG rear peeps on a Ruger 77/357. Fit was good. Looked nice and clean. I did have to drift a new front sight blade in to get the elevation correct. I started off getting the rifle to print on large paper at 50 yards. Maxed the elevation. Then used the info in a Lyman peep sight pamphlet to calculate the proper height of the new sight blade. The Lyman pamphlet gives the amount of sight height change required based on sight radius (distance between front and rear sight) and the amount of vertical change required at 100 yards to regulate the sights.
The one issue I had with the NECG peep was I ran out of windage travel before I got on the bull. I dremeled a small amount off the bottom of the NECG mounting surface to allow it to move in the needed direction. Finally had to drift the front sight slightly outside the front sight base (0.010" to 0.020" to get the windage dead on.
The 77/357 was built during the time that Ruger had some "bent/bowed/crooked" barrels on other models that have been discussed on other 24HCF threads. And, I only tried one cast bullet hand load in the rifle. So, not sure if the windage issue was due to the sight ?, the Barrel ? Or just a particularly squirrely hand load ? My suspicion is the barrel. But can not prove it.
As far as NECG, I would not hesitate to purchase another NECG sight if the need arose.
