Been doing a bit of reading on this site about old Model 70s so I decided to join up and post a picture of my most recent acquisition. Then I realized I already joined this forum, six years ago! Anyhow, here she is. Took a sharp eye and around eight tanks of mid-grade to bring her from Minnesota to Montana.

She's a December '38 rifle, in 30-06, with a pre-war Lyman Alaskan.

The best hunting knife I have ever used. One sharpening will get me though one elk.

That rifle really speaks to you. I love the signs of wear. It's been carried a bunch but well cared for and loved. Probably not shot too much either. Very nice rifle. Thanks for sharing and welcome to the fire.. Do you have any close up pics of the other side?

I don't yet, but I'll try to get more pictures of her tomorrow, perhaps along with her younger sisters.

Not to hijack your tread with knives but for 38 years my favorite
carry knife has been a 20A skinner from Rudy. My dad bought it for my 18th birthday and graduation from Boot Camp.

ismith, Very impressive. I'd say you've got the continent covered with that trio. What is the story on the stock on the .257? It has some beautiful figure in it.

All I know is its not an Factory stock and it looks and feels great. It does have some really nice figure that comes out in the sun.

Checked the action screws after I posted that picture and tightened them all up a bit. Maybe with those screws tight and the right hand loads she will shoot Irish groups.

That's 5 shots at 100 yards at 0.89 inches. Now to work up a load with Nosler Partitions and maybe some Accubonds.
