I will admit it does take some technique.
The taste is not the same as eggs fried over easy in bacon grease in a cast iron skillet.
Well any way don't care to criticize the cook or I will be making breakfast for myself.

Perfect soft boiled egg: Put them in a pot of cold water high enough to cover the eggs. Cover pot. Put heat on high. When water starts to really boil, let it do so for one minute. Turn off heat. Let them sit in the hot water one minute. Remove eggs and run under cold water for about ten seconds. Sit them on a paper towel for two minutes (They will get quite warm again, but not too hot to handle). Carefully tap (using the edge of a teaspoon) a circle around the top portion for removal. Remove top. Enjoy the perfect soft boiled egg.

They are absolutely perfect for a farm table setting. Good eats too.

Late one night when I was in high school, I mentioned that soft-boiled eggs sounded intriguing. Mom took this as a challenge. (Mom and I were night owls; Dad was early to bed; in summer with his transistor radio balanced on his chest listening to the Twins on WCCO and cussing Bob Allison for taking called third strikes.) She began a concerted effort to create same. Her efforts alternated between snot (the dog got) and some stage of hard-boiled (I ate). By the time festivities came to a halt, the dog and I had each had 10-12 eggs each.

I love soft boiled eggs and eat them from the cup, too. I make little strips of toast to dunk.

I like a couple scooped in a bowl, add chopped up buttered toast, stir.

Never seen Dad or Granddad eat eggs out of a cup. Most likely was too "hoity toity" for them.

Pretty much, except when I'd see my Dad eating them on rare special or not so special occasions or when Mom just felt like making him some. Anyways, it wasn't very often, but the folks enjoyed them from time to time.

I have horsechit luck getting the hard boiled eggs out of the shell, do the soft boiled ones release from the shell easier? My kids might kinda like this if I can pull it off and still look like super dad. or I will wait until they are 13, eat them for myself and tell them to figure it out for themselves.

I break soft boiled eggs in half and scoop them out with a teaspoon.

OT, but the way to get HB eggs to peel is to leave them out on a counter at room temp for a day or so.
There is enzyme action that works on the membrane releasing the shell.

I have heard this before, but the only way I will be able to leave eggs on the counter for more than an hour is if Christ himself tells my wife she will not get sick from it.........and even then she will probably make him sign an affidavit.

After being boiled, they're germ free. It takes many days of being left out of the fridge thereafter before bacteria can penetrate an intact shell. Didn't she eat Easter eggs as a kid, even a couple of days after Easter? We did, and they were left in a basket on the counter-top, not in the fridge. And, yes, the shells peeled right off, no effort.
