What short stroke kit should I get for a Uberti 1873 in 44/40. Do the kits require much fitting?

Short stroke kits fall under two groups. There are those that offer the shortest stroke that is SASS legal which are the Pioneer super short and the cowboys and Indians 4th and 5th generation. The 4th and 5th offer the same length stroke while going about it slightly differently.

The other group of kits create a slightly longer stroke. They are the Pioneer short stroke, the Cowboys and Indians 3rd generation, and the Ron Snover kit.

The longer stroke kits tend to be more forgiving and require slightly less critical tuning. Another benefit is more leverage with the bigger cases 44-40 and 45.

The pioneer kits are made of softer steel than the C&I and Snover kits. My personal preference for big bore guns is the C&I 3rd gen or the Ron Snover kit.

Politicians and Diapers both need to be changed often, and for the same reason!
