I have a ruger 77/22 target that I like, but I like old school walnut & blue guns and hear good things about CZ's.
Think a 455 would shoot on par with my 77/22 target?

It might, mine in 17 HMR is accurate. Instead of just another 22 why not go to a .22 match? Look up on the NRA website where there is a rifle competition near you. We start 22 gallery around here when school starts in Sept. Go to the match and see what they are shooting. Match shooters will be friendly and want you to join and shoot with them. http://www.mrra.org/http://www.mrra.org/smallbore.htm

I don't want to get in to 22 match shooting. I have too many hobbies demanding time and money so I have to contain my crazy.
My gun choices are starting get more old school and the ruger lacks some of that cool.

Sold the CZ varmint, kept the Rugers .... YMMV, heard a lot of good about CZ ... Wouldn't want a 455 and doubtful that I'd buy a used 452, I'd be wondering why is he/she selling? I had a std 77/22 that I replaced the barrel with the target/varmint contour from Shilen because I liked the heft ... she's a good shooter, but can't help but want to tinker more

Avagrado, hmmm... interesting.
I bought the 77/22 because it was a smoking black friday deal and it is very similar weight and feature to my ruger 3006 and 223 rifles.

I was holding out for the lam SS varmint contour rifle in 22 lr as I have one in WMR and Hornet and both shoot well. I also like walnut and blue so I decided to build this one.

I would recommend a 452/3 over a 455 from what I've learned.
My 452/3s have all been excellent shooters.
My 77/17s shoot well also.

Between me and my pares we have used the 77/22s and 77/17s and the Cz in both .22 and .17 extensively in the gopher killing fields. Both are accurate, both are durable. Pick the one you like best.

I have seen and owned a few good shooting CZ 452s while I cannot say the same about the Ruger 77s. It seems as though generally it takes quite a bit of tinkering to get the 77s to shoot well as compared to the Czs.

CZ is a bunch of steps backwards from the Ruger.
Trigger,mounts,magazine,if only for starters.

Never owned a CZ so I don't know how they compare.. But I do know they would have to be pretty amazing to keep up with the 77/22. One of rugers finest...

Humdinger: I have used/shot/Hunted with at least a dozen heavy barrel CZ's in caliber 22 L.R. that belong to my friends and Hunting partners. They have all shot quite well indeed. I have also shot at least 6 Ruger 77/22 "Targets" (77/22 V/T's I call'em) not counting the beauty I own and Hunt with. These have all shot quite well indeed also. I would take the performance, fit, feel, stock design, magazine design, safeties design/functions of the Ruger 77 V/T hands down every time. In fact as much as I admire the CZ's accuracy wise, I just refuse to buy one do to the poor safety design and the poor magazine design - for starters. Both the CZ and the Ruger 77's hold their values quite well so you would not loose much at all if you decide to try a CZ. Best of luck to you if you decide to try one. Oohh... and this - I added a Volquartsen trigger "kit" to my Ruger 77/22 V/T and it is now EXCELLENT - not just "good" like it was prior to the conversion! Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

If Ruger would make some with the bolt on the correct side.

I will echo VarmentGuy's sentiment, I own 2 ruger M77/22's and sold my CZ455 FS, the CZ shot great but that safety and the cheap plastic on it and the feel of a rimfire turned me off. with my Rugers they too shoot but other than the well made magazine, no plastic and they feel like a real rifle. look good too. it's a chevy vs ford thing in my opinion.

drover The 77/22's I've owned or shot didn't have the accuracy that you generally get with CZ.

One problem I find with both the CZ and the 77/22, is the high bolt throw and the need for much higher than needed rings to clear the ocular .... the perfect rifle would be a 77/22 with said bolt modification.
