So, was this rebarreled at some point, or was it sold by Colt?

Nope, never rebarreled. It's just a FN barreled action that Colt put their name on and marketed as the "Coltsman." I think they used Sako actions for the short action cartridges.

That is a very nice rifle. Nicest one of those I have seen. One question, on the other Colts like that, they have had what looks like Micro-Groove rifling. Marlin barrels in other words. Is your like that? Thanks for your reply,
Ken

Ken I'm not sure about the rifling on this one. I've never shot it, only wiped the exterior with oil. I know what you talking about though. One of my other FN's has some kind of teeny tiny rifling, but that gun isn't a "Colt." I'll check it out tomorrow morning. Did this have sights originally?
I don't think so, I know there aren't any holes tapped for sights on the barrel.

Weight? Barrel length? L.O.P.? Recoil pad? Cheek piece? Trigger pull weight?
Thanks, RS

Thanks, RS Barrel Length is 22", it does have a cheekpiece, and it has the factory plastic buttplate on it. I will measure LOP tomorrow. I don't have an accurate way to weight the rifle or measure the trigger pull weight, but I can tell you that it's a light, nimble little rifle. The trigger is the factory FN one and adjustable.

The gun does have the micro-rifling. Did Marlin make the barrel for these? As I mentioned earlier, I have another FN with that style of rifling and it shoots really well. Really likes nosler partitions and hornady 220gr RN. I've not shot this one because it belongs to a friend. I'm selling it for him because he has a sick family member. I don't think he has shot it either. Also, I measured the LOP. It's 13-5/8".

I am not sure who made the barrel, but it is the same one I have seen on the mod 455 Marlin, and also on the Montgomery Wards mod 760 EJN that my son owns! I have found that the barrel needs to be cleaned more often and my experience with it is that it is picky with some loads! It by the way, shoots my loads at less than an inch. This rifle you are selling is easily one of the finest examples of one of the commercial mausers around and I think it is worth the money you are asking. I don't have the money--but if I did!!!

I would consider a partial trade on a decent Remington 721 action.
