The 243 will fill your 55-100 grain needs pretty well, and the 308,and 30-06 are close enough that it comes down to which rifle you like the best. You said you may want to fill a gap in your rifles,In the case that you were wanting to go heavier.I would keep the 243,and 264,and get a magnum that will handle 180s with ease, and speed.

If I were starting over, and could only have 4 rifles,
22LR
223
243
280AI

But what fun would only 4 rifles be....

I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects

I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....

Keep them all. You are gaining nothing by selling, then re-buying again.

DD may well be correct. My bride of lo these many years, says that our guns in the vault are better than money in the bank (drawing almost no interest). On the other hand, I sold a rifle a while back for $3500 that I could not get $2000 for some 6-8 years ago, so I replaced it with several pieces that are more popular priced. Every safe queen will bring more today than when it went dormant. At least they stay up with inflation.

I've sold a fair number lately too. I get tempted every now and again to just .30-06 it and be done with all the rest. I don't know.

Moose, don't be silly.. I thought for years, when I had 10 or 15 guns I had a bunch.. That was silly too.. I have guns I haven't ever shot, a .30-06 is one, but I will hang on to it.. As far as having just a .30-06, it was my second rifle.. A 32 spl. was first.. I still have them both.. The 06 was my Grandfathers.. For years I thought that is all I wanted or needed.. He had about quit hunting when he was in his late 50's... I think if I did not enjoy fooling with different guns, I would have hung it up also.. They make life interesting and different.. I doubt, I sell many more firearms in my life.. They will go to folks who I know will care for them and enjoy shooting them.. Pretty good way to be remembered I think..

I hear you. I don't know about passing much on though. From what I've seen in my family all it has done is cause fights and jealousy. There are people in my family who hate each other because of who was given what gun.

My problem is less complicated, no children of my own, so they will go to kids I taught in school who love firearms... Just a thought, if you want havoc with some of your family what a fine way to cause trouble!!! Ha!!!

No doubt about that. They've caused plenty of trouble in my family.

I'm kind of like WCH above.
No kids and a lot of my neices don't hunt and the nephews are adults and have their own stuff. Our family isn't real tight so its tough to know who will get what.

So I am thnning out everything that isn't sentimental or a favorite and use the money for hunting truck gas or buying equipment to maintain the hunting land / deer shack.

In the end, I don't want to burden my wife and I will play favorites with certain nephews with the few guns I will have left. It will create havoc, but I won't be around to hear it.

Having said that... I'm having issues with parting with guns because I'm getting below the critical 40... ;-)

Other than that, How was the show Mrs. Lincoln?

Personally, I'd just keep the 308 and go kill stuff. But the thread really could have ended after the first answer.

Larry can bring stuff (gun know-how) to the forum that few others can. Low recoil, high BC is a gospel well preached.
