OK, so I looked up "meme" on the internet, read what it had to say, and still don't understand it one damned bit. The one thing that I gleaned from the article was that some guy named Dawkins is to blame for the term. I am old. I do not adapt well. I do not appreciate all of the "cute" terms that are introduced into the language for the purpose of confusing me.

Here's something else you'll have to learn:

It's just a word attached to something we've been doing our entire lives. Chuck Norris jokes would be a meme. Bashing Ford's as "Fix Or Repair Daily" could be a meme. Basically something that becomes so popular that most will recognize it upon seeing it or hearing it.

Lots of internet memes are built around viral photos or sayings that go around.

(Disclaimer: please see third signature line.) If I am understanding correctly (not likely), they are supposed to be something that is so familiar that everyone will relate to them. If that is the case, it seems like many of them are just things that people are creating that don't really have any universal relevance. I am reminded of someone's quote relative to Mr. Sanders, "You don't give yourself a nickname, Dion."

It doesn't have to be universal, really, just to the audience. So leopard print thongs, inflatable dolls in Pinedale, OJ and razors, blue tape.. Those could be memes recognizable to almost all campfire members. There's a huge number of memes that are only going to be recognized by kids, cuz who here want s to read their web sites?

a Meme ( pronounced "meem" )

Is simply a social idiom - that keeps bouncing around a click or group.

the popcorn eating antelop is a example of one, but more specifically it's when people add "text" to the bottom of a picture to make it relavent to what just happened.

Grumpy Cat picture with text... type stuff.

There are tons of programs that now generate Meme's for people by adding text to a picture that's been floating around for a while.
