Have a pre-64 working up a load for it. It's my buddies anyhow I found one good load with 140gr bullet with h4831 but it's slow 2780 with my chrono. What's your guys favorite load and please provide OAL.

All loads use CCI 250 primers and are loaded to kiss the lands.

With a 140 Sierra, 65 gr of H4831 produced 3050 fps.

With a 140 Sierra, 73 gr of Magnum produced 3150 fps.

With a 140 Sierra, 67 gr H1000 produced 3000 fps and was my favorite load with the original Win 26 in factory barrel.

The rifle now has a 27 inch Pac-Nor barrel and following are new data with this barrel.

With a 130 accubond, 70 gr H1000 produced 3200 fps.

With a 130 accubond 73 gr H870 produced 2975 fps.

With a 130 accubond 69 gr Retumbo produced 3200 fps

With a 130 accubond 71 gr Magnum produced 3300 fps and excellent accuracy. This is the load I am shooting.

I think this one has a slow barrel as well but my load was 62gr h4831 it seem the manuasl are very conservative with load data. Especially nosler

125 grain partitions or 130 grain a accubonds run 3300 FPS, pushed by IMR7828.

Good terminal performance and plenty of penetration. For my purposes, no need for 140 grain

Try R-33 if you can find it. It is especially good with 130s and 140s. I use the 127 LRX RP brass, 250, and R-33 for an easy 3300 from an 8 twist 26" Krieger.

The H4831 I have is slow too. Friend of mine said the same thing when I mentioned I wasn't getting near the velocity from it as I did in previous lots.

My go to load for some time was the 140g Hornady IL over 61g of IMR 4831. It got 3100 fps from a 28" barrel. That was from a older Hornady Manual. They have since reduced the charge quite a bit.

Now I am using Ramshot Magnum under Berger 140 VLDs.

Use Retumbo, 7828 and 1000. Retumbo was what I used before R33. I have also used 7828 and 1000 with decent success, but R-33 was best .

Working on a similar load now...what kind of accuracy are you seeing? How far are you jumping to the lands?

That's within 100 fps of Nosler's 127 LRX load for the 26 Nosler, burning a whole lot more powder.

Although Double Tap cranks their 26 Nosler 127 LRX ammo to 3,600 fps. Not sure how they're doing that without exceeding SAAMI pressure limits. Maybe they're using unique, proprietary powder blends like Hodgdon's Superperformance ammo.

Groups are running 1 1/4 inch, this rifle has never been a tack driver but when my eyes were younger I shot two deer at 400 plus yards off hand. I am about seventy thousands off the lands, my 264 has a short throat.

One more vote for the 140 VLD hunting and Retumbo just kissing the lands in my old Remington also works very well too!! I run GM215M primers with it too.
