according to the ASPCA, 5 million people per year in the US are bitten by a dog. 800,000 of them, badly enough to seek medical attention. You can bet that for at least every one of the 5 million, as many more came very close to being bittern. About 100 people per year, in the US, get torn up by bears (if the human didn't precipitate the event). Yet everyone is worried about having a "bear pistol", instead of a dog pistol.

I'm not worried about having either.

Well, yea.

How many bears do you see a year?

How many dogs do you encounter each year?

How many bears have an owner who can be sued by a lawyer?

That's nice.

I'll bet the ASPCA didn't work out the odds of bear attack vs dog attack while hiking/hunting/camping in bear country.

Good.

I have a Dan Wesson 375 I'll tote for the dogs.....and some earplugs.

Will a 230 LBT, heat treated, running at 1,400 ps or so go through a mobile home trailer lengthwise?

Other day I was walking down the Street with my little girl and what appeared to be a ridgeback or pit bull of some sort came viciously running at us.

I proceeded to excersize a terminology known as

STOMP THE DOG [bleep] OUT OF IT.

Seemed to work rather nicely.

Don't think I'd want to try that one on a Bear!

Cool!

A serious cartridge collector once showed me his Velo-Dog ammo boxes & cartridges. Until then, I didn't know the company offered a number of different bullet types.

No, not roundnose types, not hollowpoint types... types of bullet materials!

He had the usual ones with lead bullets, but he also had ones with wood bullets (which he said were olive wood), yet another box with wax bullets, and (for dogs that you were not very really angry at!), cork bullets!

None of the boxes were in great shape, but just to have any kind of boxes with at least a few of these obscure bullets rattling around inside impressed the hell out of me. I recall at least 2 of the boxes were in French.

And that concludes our "Trivia Tonight" -- we now return you to the bear/dog thread -- while we anxiously await the "pit bull" war to begin! smile

Those stats are pretty useless.

Yes, probably true in their most basic sense.

But I, unlike millions of Americans, will be walking up an over-grown trail on the edge of the Bob Marshall Wilderness two hours before light on Saturday (opening day).

Suppose my odds will be a little higher then?
