ingwe, I second the lightweight 222. I just got one back from the smith and have been playing with it a little.
I was going to post all the details one I get it all dialed in. It is down to 50gr TTSX, 55gr GMX, or Sierra 65gr Game King.
It is a 700 action, a Montana rifle barrel that I picked up here in 1:9 twist. Mcmillan edge stock that I found on here also.
Mine will have a vortex 2-7 on it after I get done with the load work.

No PPCs for this kid...I have serious questions about their sexual orientation.

It might get a 6x36, or plain old 4x too. The vortex came on a 358 Win I bought awhile back. The rifle went down the road, but the scope stayed.
I do not do any type of varmint shooting, but I like to chase coyotes and Mt lions here in SD. It will also be real easy keep in the truck, on the 4 wheeler, or in the tractor when working out at the ranch on my days off.
I could have been happy with a Ti takeoff too, but the Edge had been sitting around looking for something to do.

He's so cheap - bet he'll end up shooting 223s out of it. ingwe, I second the lightweight 222. I just got one back from the smith and have been playing with it a little.

No PPCs for this kid...I have serious questions about their sexual orientation. IIRC Jim Carmichel used a 6mm PPC to win a Benchrest match in 2008-09. You too could be cool like Jim. Also,Jim likes the .280 over the .270. Other than that little "glitch" Jim is one cool dude.

Ok,I was wrong on Jim Carmichel winning a Benchrest match in 2008-09. Here is what he did. Jim set a new World Record in March 2012 in the Light Varmint Class Benchrest Rifle(10.5 lbs max.) The new record is 100 yd aggregate group average size of .1441" for five five-shot groups. Got the info from the Nosler Reloading Manual #7 on page 167,which is the introduction of the 6mm PPC.

I vividly remember reading JC after he took over at Outdoor Life. He was talking up the 280.
I remember looking at the 280 and thinking, huh, it can't be too bad as it does the same thing with 140gr bullet as the 270 does with the 130gr.
Then continued using the 270 for the last 30+ years.

Ingwe
Why not go REALLY big and do a 257 Kimber? That'd be a cool way to go. Like CT said about the 6x45, I've got the canthelpits for a 257 Kimber. I could happily get by with the 6x45, though.
4 out of 5 Great Lakes prefer Michigan.

Dude......I can get that size group any day of the week by only firing one shot out of a deuce.....better groups, more ammo economy....

He's so cheap - bet he'll end up shooting 223s out of it. I have actually thought about that. Believe it or not, I have only one .223 right now, and enough ammo loaded to burn the barrel on it easily....I need another .223.....

Come on ingwe, you know it is not about neeed!
Went to the range today to work on my 222. Settled on the load will start another thread later tonight about the non magnum 222.
I have a archery deer tag to fill, and we are losing daylight here. Fortunately the stand is only a few minutes from the house.
